Deep(ish) lines on 16 yr old

My dd has suffered from ill health over the last few years and also prone to dry skin.

She has fairly deep frown lines on her forehead on a face that looks way younger (husband's genes).

She's sad about them and I'm wondering what she can do to help, given her young years, maybe she can turn back time on them or certainly slow down their deepening?

Any advice appreciated.

I've always had lines on my forehead since I was 10 which never bothered me but I've also always looked much younger than my age too.

SilverGlassHare · 25/10/2021 09:23

I’d say intensive moisturiser on her lines and a really good sunscreen, to slow down their development. I think only Botox would actually get rid of them (temporarily) and that’s not a path I’d want to go down with a child.

GoingForAWalk · 25/10/2021 09:24

I would probably advise aha, HA and Cerave moisturiser

GoodGrief100 · 25/10/2021 09:28

I also second Hyaluronic Acid - great stuff. Just be sure to apply it to a wet face and add a moisturiser on top straight away to get the best results.

Coffee4Queen · 25/10/2021 09:38

Echoing the hyaluronic acid and Cerave moisturiser use. Get the Cerave that’s in a tub. When she is older she can start with gentle retinol creams.

For HA if money is problem the Medik8 Hydr8 B5 is very good or for inexpensive option Hadalabo Gokujyun is brilliant!

Also get her eyes checked when my glasses were too weak my frown line worsen as I was trying to focus.

Does she drink a lot of water? Not a miracle cure obviously but I definitely see a difference when I up my water intake.

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/10/2021 10:15

Vitamin E oil from Superdrug really helped when I had one fairly deep line on my forehead. At 52, it remains smooth and oil has become part of my evening skincare routine.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 25/10/2021 10:27

Increase water intake this makes a massive difference to mine

Corcra · 25/10/2021 10:28

I’ve had a deep line on my forehead since early teens. It’s still the same but mid forties and I’ve hardly any other ones. I find kinvara rosehip serum amazing. Rosehip oil is good too. Obviously drinking lots of water.

jpbee · 25/10/2021 10:32

I'd recommend Paula's Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant, followed by their 1% Retinol Serum (or the Retinol Serum if her skin wont tolerate that) and then a night moisturiser. I was starting with these lines at 30 and have been using the above for the past couple of years and they've gone now.

Ugzbugz · 25/10/2021 10:37

I'm much older my wrinkles and lines are much worse when I'm dehydrated and or tired.

Could skin care routine, sun protection is very important.

And lots of water.

Ugzbugz · 25/10/2021 10:37

*good not could skin care routine

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/10/2021 11:49

I agree too about water and sunscreen. Sunscreen is a habit we should all have all year round. I use La Roche Posay or Amber Solaire face (the skincare version), factor 50 always. It's the last layer of my daily skincare in the morning. She could also try adding a Hyaluronic Acid to a damp face straight after cleansing and before moisturiser. I use Inkey List or The Ordinary.

Taoneusa · 25/10/2021 12:44

At that age she needn’t bother with complex skin care routines. She can sleep wearing a Frownie : easy, effective.

user1000000000009 · 25/10/2021 12:47

Controversial but you could get her Botox to stop them from getting deeper set.

5128gap · 25/10/2021 13:46

You could try frownies, little patches to wear overnight that smooth out the lines. I find them good for forehead lines, especially when I put them over a hydrating moisturiser, and I'm old. At her age the lines may not yet be too set, so might be even more effective. They also stop lines caused by frowning in your sleep from forming/ worsening. And they're cheap and non intrusive.

5128gap · 25/10/2021 13:47

Sorry didn't see this had been recommended already.

Kjr33 · 25/10/2021 14:59

If her skin is dry the lines could just be standing out more and make up will probably make them more obvious too, I would sort the dry skin first using hylaronic acid (the inkey list possibly)a good moisturiser (cosrx ceramide comfort cream) and maybe an oil like rosehip oil. If she wants to try a chemical exfoliant I suggest the cosrx aha and bha toner but I think the aha part is more important in this case as it breaks the bonds between cells allowing dead skin cells to lift away, if she isn’t oily the bha isn’t as important. She should wear spf every day I highly recommend looking at Korean brands and specifically isntree hyalaronic one for dry skin. And see in a few weeks if there is any improvement before going for anything more drastic. For make up she might need to look at a moisturising primer to stop foundation caking into the lines.
I hope this isn’t bothering her too much I’m sure they aren’t as bad as she thinks they are
