Help dressing for new job, posh horsey set

I've been offered a job in a vair upmarket company related to horseracing in the Cotswolds.
All male environment, men wear checked shirts, cords, schoffel gilets.
No actual horse involvement for me.
I have no idea what to wear. I need to be smart but fit in. So probably not a suit.
Mid fifties, size 12, hourglass.
Help please!

I'd go for Joules or Boden as a starting point - well fitted trousers, a shirt and a blazer with some nice flats. Mix up the colours and patterns a bit so it doesn't turn into a formal suit look.

This type of thing -

Fairfax and Favour boots seem to be the footwear of choice in that set. With jeans or dresses

There's a nice Harris tweed one here if you want to go slightly more upmarket.

But tbh, I'd just be myself. You are there to work, so own your own style. (I understand the want to fit in, but I am really not a fan of the posh horsey look, despite being a middle class horse owner near the Cotswolds myself. People who don't know I ride are always surprised when they find outGrin)

Although if you really do want to blend in, a joules or Boden shirt is also a good place to start. With jeans if that is smart enough?

Sexnotgender · 24/10/2021 13:48

I’d wear chinos, a cashmere jumper and flats. Comfortable and smart casual.

Nocutenamesleft · 24/10/2021 13:58

Fair fax and favour for boots

Clothes wise you’ll want Holland and Cooper. They’re the new happening horse wear stuff. Actually very good too.

stealingbeauty · 24/10/2021 16:45

Wide leg wool trousers, either plain or checked, flat shoes (maybe loafers or brogues), cashmere jumpers, silk blouses. Maybe a fitted blazer too.

SuffolkBargeWoman · 25/10/2021 09:48

Thank you for the suggestions, it sounds like tweed jacket, wool trousers, brogues and good quality knitwear is the way to go.
@Nocutenamesleft
I may well be missing something but everything on the Holland Cooper website looked like it would be worn by a twenty year old influencer. I struggled to imagine a fifty year old professional pulling off the logo leggings in the office. Nice belts though.

I'm 42 and I were some of their stuff!

What about Barbour then?

Malibuismysecrethome · 25/10/2021 10:03

Just to say that tweed can be itchy, I’d go with a gillet they are warmer and more practical. Uniglo and M&S have lots of colours and styles. I would also consider a mac Burberry is £££‘a but something similar. Smart trousers and roll neck jumpers with flats for the winter and a leather handbag.

DaisyRenton18 · 25/10/2021 10:43

Depends how far you want to go really... Nice jeans and a shirt would probably be just fine! Holland Cooper is a good suggestion (the trousers and shirts etc. not the gym gear!), Vantage Atelier, Eton Taylor, Schoffel, Dubarry, Highland and Herringbone?
Or look at a site with several brands - Wadswick or House of Bruar - and see what you like.

What's your budget? Somewhere like Rydale may be good as a starter?
