Invisalign - detailed quote?

If you've had Invisalign, did your dentist give you a breakdown of the costs? Mine just said it would be £4000 and I've had nothing in writing or any detail except that it will take 15 trays. I'd really like to have it done but it's so much money and this just seems weird. Also, do you think costs are fairly standard across dentists?

My husbands in the middle of treatment, he was given a breakdown of costs and a load of paperwork about what was included (after care and any additional trays were covered by the quote).
I’d ask for a breakdown and see if anyone can give you recommendations of dentists they’ve used.

That's helpful, thanks. I was expecting full paperwork too for something so expensive

It's just a loan agreement, and a set of photos of what the teeth should look like at each week as they progress.
It is a bit of a leap of faith.
Plus they never tell you that you will need lots of attachments.

Lots of extras needed too. My breakdown was 4700 that included whitening at end, and filing too.

SkippettyDoDah · 25/10/2021 22:43

Can I ask, what are attachments? And what sort of extras? It just seems so strange that something well established should be a leap of faith.
Maybe traditional braces would be better / clearer?

I second that they don’t tell you how many attachments you’ll really need. They’re small little blocks on your teeth for the trays to adhere to. I felt quite conscious of the attachments, more so than the actual trays being in. In saying that, they didn’t tell me when they were going to be taking the attachments off either - I got a nice surprise when most were removed after my 15th tray and before my final 8. Well I hope, I have two trays left and hopefully they’re the last. I absolutely love the results so far, but I do wonder if I would’ve been better off getting train tracks and not having to rely on myself to keep the trays in for 22 hours a day. It is quite hard to commit to that, especially since I am a snacker. I am also surprised that the extra trays really are at no extra cost but if the dentist you are going with are not making that clear, try and ensure that you get more than a verbal commitment that they are free of charge. I needed an extra 8 - but changing once a week rather than twice. The extras are probably the retainers at the end. I was told that I will likely need a bonded retainer at an extra cost of €150/€200 for a year after my final tray and then the non-bonded retainers will also have an extra cost, around €150/€200 again I think. If I had my time over I would’ve had a consultation for traditional braces along with the Invisalign consultation to compare and contrast.

Oh sorry, my total cost of €3500 includes whitening & filing too. I went to an open day where the dentist had €x amount off the normal cost. Maybe have a consultation for traditional and scope out if there are any Invisalign offers that might come up in your area.

I don’t think they did give me a breakdown - that was just the figure for whatever it took. So once I did the initial trays they rescanned and I got more, but I didn’t have to pay anymore. I had regular check ups but it was all included in the treatment cost. If I wasn’t happy at the end I could have kept going with more trays but it wouldn’t have cost anymore. Mine also included a fixed retainer and a removable night time retainer.

I never had to pay for any extras.

Train tracks may be easier, but I liked the fact I could remove them. You can’t really notice the attachments when the trays are out. I drank through a straw to save removing them so much.

It’s a faff, but I’m glad I had the treatment ad the results are worth it.

Good to hear the results were good even if the process / cost is a bit opaque!

Mine was £4K and I was given a breakdown to include impressions, no of trays and whitening at the end. The agreement guaranteed no surprise costs.
