could you fit this dress into 'everyday life'?

I should stop looking at it. I usually avoid billowy dresses with pattern but it keeps catching my eye Blush

Thing is, I walk a lot, it rains a lot, and more often than not I just lazily pull on some leggings, floppy cashmere and my docs.

It just isn't going to work for throwing on and stuff, is it? Special occasions only?

looks nice with a jumper but I still can't envisage a coat with it or popping to see a friend.

I’d wear it for work.

Where’s it from?

Pinkstegosaurus · 20/10/2021 23:27

I love it and it’s exactly what I would wear with a pair of docs 😊 please could you let me know where it’s from?

WellJuhnelle · 20/10/2021 23:31

I pretty much live in dresses like this and walk my children to school almost every day, whatever the weather. Chuck a coat over and you’ll be fine!

I would wear it with tights and Docs (and maybe a waist belt) during the winter and then bare legs with Converse or Vans as the weather warms up.

Pheasantlysurprised · 20/10/2021 23:32

thanks! still have to consider my own lifestyle though, im quite rural.

it is from Kin, John Lewis :)

I live rurally and spend most of my time in dresses much like that. In summer it would be paired with practical sandals, in winter, short boots and tights or leggings. I am not really one for fashion though, I just find dresses comfortable.

dottypencilcase · 20/10/2021 23:42

I have it and love it. Most of my wardrobe is kin. I find the dresses incredibly versatile.

Megan2018 · 20/10/2021 23:46

It’s far too long for me (I’m short and that style of dress drowns me). But I wear a lot of shorter floral dresses in winter with very thick tights, boots, knitwear.
I think it’s pretty practical if you aren’t hobbit sized like me.
I’m also rural, and quite often muck out my horse etc whilst wearing similar Blush

ALittleBitWorrriedNow · 20/10/2021 23:47

Yes absolutely. I have a not dissimilar dress from primark. It’s very versatile, I tend to wear it more in autumn and spring with leggings underneath and a denim jacket.

LolaSmiles · 20/10/2021 23:49

I wear dresses like that in everyday life, but mainly in spring, summer and early autumn.
Longer dresses styled with tights and boots don't suit me though. It would look nice styled wintery if it suits your shape/style.

As I constantly tell my DP, clothes are for wearing and enjoying, not for admiring whilst they hang in the closet. So I wear them. And they get wet, dirty, the odd stain or snag, a little hole here and there. Thrown in the washing machine at the end of the day regardless of what the label says or how much it cost (turn the temperature and spin down if necessary, 99% of items will be fine). I trip over hems and sometimes cut them shorter, leaving a frayed edge. Eventually the clothes get trashed completely. Then they go into the recycling and I buy more.

Buy it, love it and wear it until it dies OP. You know you want to.

ALittleBitWorrriedNow · 21/10/2021 00:09

I’ve just had a closer look at it in the JL website. The only thing that puts me off is the gathering at the bust - I’d be worried it’d just hang off my boobs. Would love to see some real like pics

Pheasantlysurprised · 21/10/2021 00:20

I do feel comfier in dresses, too. But have always struggled to find the right weather appropriate coats or waterproofs to go with them.

I was ruined a little by living in the lakes for a few years. The cutting cold and damp quickly ended my dress/skirt days and I found myself having to wear hiking gear non stop just to survive a shopping trip. Im not exaggerating either, I was so, so uncomfortable in that climate that I lived in Rab jackets and hiking tights. And that stuff, really doesn't suit me, it was so depressing.

(apologies, I realise I just spilled all of that out like in a therapists chair!)

Im not as far north now though and still struggle to trust lighter garments and my beloved ankle length wool coat.

Agree about life being too shirt, we should wear what we love - even if we often find people on MN telling us it's crazy or 'dated', aargh.

I would wear it all year round.

Now with black ankle boots, tights, jumper and leather jacket.
Spring with trainers/denim jacket.
Summer sandals and shades!

BeaLola · 21/10/2021 02:08

Buy it , wear it , love it

I think it looks great - wish I had the figure for it. I would wear it to work, out for lunch , shopping etc / life is too short to keep things for

BeaLola · 21/10/2021 02:09

..to keep things for best

HollysBush · 21/10/2021 02:21

I am inspired and will be wearing a dress with thick tights to walk the dog tomorrow 😁. Even if it is blowing a Gale.

bananafish · 21/10/2021 02:32

It’s exactly an everyday dress to me.

Dresses are by fat the easiest option. Pull it on with tights and boots and literally don’ t have to give another thought to wardrobe for the rest of the day.

Pheasantlysurprised · 21/10/2021 04:03

but coats? Im stumped. I have a long wool coat but no idea how to Dres for very cold or wet conditions - possibly report to leggings in that case.

I don't suit leather jackets but do have a shirt quilted Barbour that works ok. I can't see regular waterproofs working with this type of dress?

I love dresses and where them day in, day out. I would wear this about the house, to work and weekends.

The coat issue with full length sleeves would be a bit of problem for me though. The double layering is never comfy for me on the cuffs. This is why l tend to go for 3 quarter sleeves on winter dresses.

MrsCardone · 21/10/2021 07:18

Buy the dress! It's gorgeous! I would wear it with white trainers and a jumper, like the one the model is wearing.

If it's too cold at the moment, you could just hang onto it until the weather gets warmer.

OhRosalind · 21/10/2021 07:31

Dark, billowy and patterned (to hide mud splashes) makes it a perfect everyday dress. Wear with docs or trainers, jumper or loose cardigan over the top. Tights or leggings. I think a long Mac would work, or a shorter jacket.

InPraiseOfLadyGrey · 21/10/2021 22:01

Layer up when it gets really cold. Vest, t-shirt, tights, thick leggings, the dress, cardigan/jumper, boots, your coat, hat and scarf. Dresses are totally wearable all year round. Having said that, I do prefer dresses with a heavier fabric for autumn and winter, I save anything floaty and flimsy for spring and summer.
