Double animal print?

For context my ‘style’ is oversized slouchy clothes with chunky boots or trainers contrasted with something skinny or feminine. So definitely not Bet Lynch.

I need a versatile cardi and I have fallen in love with a £££ big slouchy one with an enlarged leopard print on it. I recon I can wear it with my leopard print midi skirt etc… can’t I?

Well of you are worried that it will look a bit much and what other people think, I would say no. If you don't care then go for it.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2021 11:54

Go for it. Add a tail if you feel bold

Mercurial123 · 20/10/2021 12:02

It would be too much for me.

Lynne1Cat · 20/10/2021 12:13

I love animal prints and have got several tops in zebra, giraffe, and leopard patterns, but I always wear plain bottoms. I think double animal prints are a bit much, but if you like it, wear what on earth you like.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/10/2021 12:24

I am a firm believer that leopard print is a neutral, but the only way I would “double up” would be a jumper with my faux fur coat over it and a scarf, not as a whole inside outfit.

Purplecatshopaholic · 20/10/2021 12:34

We need a pic op!

Tempting!

@Purplecatshopaholic this is the best I can do as I don’t own the cardi yet but I think it gives you an idea. Obviously tone of the colours in real life will be keen.

And responding to others, I do tend to like to stand out a bit.

Key not keen 🙄

I don’t think I’d wear double animal print. It’s a bit too Kat Slater. Could you not get the same cardi or skirt in black then you’d have the same style without too much Grrrr.

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2021 12:44

you'd need these or similar

Outfit looks ok, but you coud have leopard print boots or shoes too if you like

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2021 12:46

You could be Quakin' Catkins, the 2020s catskin version of a double denim popstar

KirstenBlest · 20/10/2021 12:47

Leopard print is considered a neutral, go for it

Journeynotdestination · 20/10/2021 12:48

Where’s the cardi from? It’s lovely

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 20/10/2021 13:00

@Journeynotdestination it’s all saints so £££ but everything I have bought from their knitwear range has lasted well.

I was actually looking for a black slouchy cardi to wear with my leopard print items (I only have three, I’m not obsessed!) But despite there being a million options I couldn’t find one that grabbed me. I’m trying to buy more consciously so wanted something of reasonable quality but for the £ wanted to love it. This is the only cardi that jumped out and that’s why I started asking myself if I can do double leopard.

OverTheRubicon · 20/10/2021 13:09

Looks pretty, but a bit Carole Baskin if you double cat print it.

Works with lots of other things though.

merryhouse · 20/10/2021 13:21

Well I was all set to go Please God No but now I've seen that picture I've totally changed my mind.

The major difference in size while keeping the colour the same makes it work.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 20/10/2021 14:37

Thanks @merryhouse that was my theory. I’ve ordered it!

It will undoubtably go with many black items in my wardrobe anyway but a bit of fun with double leopard is possible. Also, I think my handbag and jewellery will cut through the cat a bit.

Thank you all, your advice/challenge has been… purrfect (sorry)

StarlightLady · 20/10/2021 17:00

I’d only wear double animal print if the second item was knickers! 😂

AnnieSnap · 20/10/2021 23:07

For me, it’s doable if it’s one item of clothing together with an accent like shoes, a bag or a collar on a coat, but not two full garments. That said I believe clothes are a great way to express ourselves, so we should wear what makes us feel good.

Nannyamc · 20/10/2021 23:12

Love animal print but only 1 item per outfit . Rest plain black . Let's you mix several outfits.

PegasusReturns · 20/10/2021 23:17

Doable if you’re young and slim.

On older, curvier women it’s too close to a busty barmaid stereotype

It’s true though 🤷‍♀️

Haha so today I am wearing £9 brown zebra print loose trousers from Tesco, and a black and cream zebra print viscose blouse from Marks and Spencer, with a cream shawl cardigan over the top. I randomly wore this during lockdown and felt it was a cross between oh that is stylish and fun, and call the fashion police. I'm wearing it again so the fun is winning. I personally think its a take on print clash, but slightly toned down. It works as the print is the same (zebra) and the colours aren't vastly different. I think the colours working together are the key to print clash.
