Make up for over 50s

Would anyone be able to help me with a skincare/make up routine please? Really want to go back to basics and achieve a very natural look for every day. A (short) list of products would be great.

I'm finding Trinny London products are working very well for me - they are very light and give a fresh, non cakey look. They are very easy to apply and you can have the pleasure of watching Trinny demonstrate on videos.
I've got the BB cream, a lip-to -cheek pot, and a couple of eyeshadows, and that's all you need really.
I was pondering getting them for ages because I think they are quite expensive, but eventually went to try them out in store, and found the staff there super helpful when it came to choosing between lots of similar neutral shades. I've had lots of positive comments from people who seem to think I look just slightly fresher and brighter.

I like hot and flashy, on youtube

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 19/10/2021 22:24

Thank you for these suggestions. I will definitely take a look.

I also rate the Trinny London stuff - I have the colour correcting BB (cc?) cream and it's great

Yes, Trinny London is great I find. Very light & wearable. It’s very blendable so you don’t have to be an expert when applying it. It’s a great way to have a simple make up bag as some items can double up & be used on lips & cheeks. Seems expensive but is good quality.

AnnieSnap · 20/10/2021 23:10

I have started using the Trinny stuff this year too. It’s light, buildable and there’s no powder (which is aging as it sits in lines and pores). Light and dewy is the best approach as we get older.

ComeBackPeterComeBackPaul · 21/10/2021 05:59

Thanks everyone. For those of you using Trinny London, which products specifically can you recommend? I am building a make up bag from scratch and am looking for ideas. Particularly want to hear what foundation people like.
Really liked hot and flashy on YouTube - will dig deeper.

Also like Gemma at Pampered Wolf on YouTube. She’s 40s rather than 50s but does really great product reviews and tutorials.
I use less foundation as I get older. Love the Trinny BFF cream and also the BFF de-stress serum (which I use as a base). Miracle blur for mattifying a few creases, lol. You might like the BFF Eye, under eye concealer too. I now prefer the new Lancôme concealer though (teint idole all over concealer - the new one - it’s in a bottle not a tube) - it’s the best I have found. I don’t use a lot of powder these days, but a little under the eyes to set concealer is useful - I love the Pat McGrath blurring under eye powder. And a great lip gloss (too many to mention)!

Watch Nadine Baggott on Insta and YT. She also has a brilliant FB group that she actually interacts with.
She explains the actual science in skincare and tells us why we "need" only 5 things:
Cleanser
Vit C
Moisture/hydration
Retinol
Sunscreen

The rest is optional. She often updates her videos on all of the above and has price points from £4 down Superdrug to ££££ Skinceuticals.

Cleanser and moisturizer is where you don't need to spend. One goes down the sink, the other just hydrates, it doesn't and won't make you look 25 if you're 50.

The actives in the vit C and retinol products are what makes the difference.

Geamhradh · 21/10/2021 07:14

Make up- I'm 55 and my everyday face is:
N7 Hydraluminous foundation (have tried every expensive one under the sun and this is better than any of them)
Dior Pump and Volume mascara
Clinique Quickliner in blue grey
Nars blusher in some pale baby pink colour
Bobbi Brown pressed powder.

I've also got a drawer full of stuff that I've bought and not used obviously Grin

Geamhradh · 21/10/2021 07:15

Also Bobbi Brown corrector and concealed but I don't always get round to them.

MamsellMarie · 21/10/2021 08:01

I first started reading Trinny and suzanne?sp fashion in the Telegraph womens' pages in 1981, they then got a tv prog - good for her, great business woman to keep going so long! I will try her stuff.

MamsellMarie · 21/10/2021 08:04

Oh, she's born in 1964, maybe it was after that.

Purplewithred · 21/10/2021 08:09

Look Fabulous Forever has great videos and their face primer is brilliant

NashvilleQueen · 21/10/2021 08:19

I think the Trinny products look good but I won't give her my money.

Happygirl79 · 21/10/2021 08:32

I've often seen the Trinny ads on Instagram. She has a face full of fillers and advertises her products herself which seems
deceitful to me
She does look good don't get me wrong but all I can see is a face full of fillers so absolutely no wrinkles at all
Many here are very happy with her products but until she uses a real woman who isn't 18 or has a face full of fillers she does her products no favours at all and many (I'm one of them) won't try them..
As a foot note I am pleased to hear they work on some people
Factor 50 is the base of all skincare in all seasons for me

PandoraP · 21/10/2021 10:29

I also follow Trinny on Instagram and thinks she is showing her products on many pretty normal looking people too. I like her eye shadows and I like the fact she is using fingers to blend and no brushes. She applies make up like I do basically.

I think you can go very wrong with N7 products and now nearly 50 think less is more but I have always only used make up to look a bit fresher rather than made up.

PandoraP · 21/10/2021 10:29

Sorry meant can’t go wrong with N7

The BFF Cream and BFF Serum. The lip to cheek, cream eyeshadow and the BFF serum concealer. For those saying they are not keen on how Trinny advertises it herself and has fillers etc. I too was cynical, but I tried it and now speak from experience.
AnnieSnap · 21/10/2021 20:31

@Happygirl79girl if you look at Trinny on her recent and current videos, she does have wrinkles, plenty of them. Maybe you have seen some airbrushed stills? 🤷‍♀️

Also, to add re make-up recommendations, I have used YSL Touché Eclat as a Concealer for decades and swore by it. In the last year or two, I have found it settling into lines under my eyes as the day wore on. Eventually, I decided to try Trinny’s, thinking I’d be wasting my money, but it was worth a try. It is much lighter in consistency, but still covers (not as much, but enough). Most importantly, all day long, it never settles in the lines 🙂
