Waterproof trainers, but not massive clompy hiking shoes.

I'm after a decent pair of trainers for working out that'll keep my feet dry.

I've been looking around at waterproof trainers but loads of them are 'all weather hiking shoes' type of vibe which isn't what I'm after. I do fitness classes in a field a few times a week so I just need something to keep my feet dry while I'm noodling about on wet grass. And I want them to look nice (not like massive clompy clod hoppers)

I found this list and I like the Ultraboost WINTER.RDY but they're out of stock in a lot of places.

So I thought about the Reebok Reebok Ridgerider 6 Gore-Tex but it's kind of freaking me out that they're only £75 when the others are so much more expensive - why?!

Anyone got any recommendations, please? Any advice and insight is much, much appreciated.

I'd just look for leather ones rather than mesh style ones and cover in a good waterproofer like nikwax

KirstenBlest · 19/10/2021 19:46

The reebok ones look like they'd do the job.

look around online and you'll probably get last season ones cheaper.

something like these saucony gtx

Adidas terrex. Me and ds both get them for outdoorsy stuff, trail running etc. They're great, indestructible and waterproof and light as a feather.

Brooks do a trail shoe version of most of their shoes, which has a waterproof gortex layer

The soles are a bit harder than the equivalent road shoe though, so they aren’t great for lots of pavement running but are good for mud and grass and tracks

Good thread op. Massive problem finding trainers (not as you say heavier walking shoes) which you can wear in rain or wet conditions. Current tv ad I’ve been seeing for wool trainers (person in city centre flat with robot vacuum going out in rain) advertise themselves as being waterproof - right now can’t remember name of them !

stillcrazyafterall · 19/10/2021 19:57

Sounds weird but I bought a pair from cotton traders - they are like slightly heavier trainers and keep my feet dry. I do a lot of walking and they've proved so much better for the price than I was expecting.

All Birds mizzle

They aren’t great workout trainers tbh
The look great with jeans though..!

Another vote for Adidas Terrex

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/10/2021 20:58

I vote for waterproof socks Wink

Waterproof trainers wear out fairly quickly (the waterproofing), socks do too but they are cheaper to replace.

Also means you can just waterproof your current favourite pair of trainers, rather than be limited to just waterproof ones.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/10/2021 20:59

PS. Waterproof socks about £25/pair...

HeronLanyon · 19/10/2021 21:09

That’s it sw1 thanks !

offyougotwantychops · 19/10/2021 22:35

I have a pair of sealskinz waterproof socks, they do keep my feet dry but I can't get on with them for running as they are too thick for my trainers. (Although I do have very wide trotters so might just be an issue for meGrin)

spiderlight · 20/10/2021 09:57

I've got some Gore-Tex Converse - they've stayed waterproof for well over a year of daily dog walking and are really comfy.

lazylinguist · 20/10/2021 10:01

I've never even found a pair of non-leather full-on walking boots that actually keep feet dry in wet conditions, never mind trainers tbh. For ages dh and I had leather and the dc always had goretex (and wet feet). Now they've got leather too and we all have dry feet!

Tubbyinthehottub · 20/10/2021 10:17

I have got these. They aren't too clumpy www.gooutdoors.co.uk/16027742/hi-tec-womens-typhoon-waterproof-shoes-16027742

Skechers do some nice waterproof trainers. Comfy, waterproof and just look like nice trainers as opposed to hiking shoes or whatever.
