In search of nice dress that could breastfeed in - is that impossible

I want to buy myself a nice dress for christmas day. We are going to friends and I want to make it special. However, i will still be breastfeeding as baby will only be 12 weeks or so, and I don't want to have to hoik the dress all the way up whilst at the dinner table! They are all very laid back and a good laugh, but that's pushing it....

I want something to make me feel non-mumsy, ideally knee length, but with easy access to my boobs. Is it doable??

Hi Rubles, hope someone comes along with a better answer but I do feel the same as I love love love dresses and don't want to give them up once i have this lo (due tomorrow)

One tip I do have from my friend is to buy a dress with a stretchy v shaped bodice that you can easily push down your shoulder and keep a lovely shawl/pashmina type thing to hand to cover up lo with whilst feeding..

Like I say, hope someone comes along with other/better suggestions. I eagerly await them

Sorry, no, but I did what Lizzer said at a wedding I went to when ds was 11 weeks old - v-neck stretchy knee-length dress with discrete vest underneath + pashmina. Dress pulled down, vest up, and pashmina to cover up whole thing just in case..

I got a bargain from New Look for a wedding, it was a wrap dress with a built in camisole thing, but because it was a fake camisole it was just a bit of material sewn in at the shoulders, so I could pull the wrap to one side, lift the pretend camisole bit up and bob's your uncle, breastfeeding in a dress.

Thanks goodness for punctuation.

OK thanks for that. I hadn't thought of pulling down rather than going up the dress. The trouble with that is that I am then limited to stretchy fabrics.

or a shirt dress you can unbutton (vest underneath to hitch up) could work

Bollox, typed a huge message and it's lost to the ether.. OK - try the internet. mammalait.com has nice srap style dresses, or my Danish friend recommended these sites - milker.dk and boobs.se ammentoj is danish for dress, but I think they have english translations too. A wrap deep v neck is very useful, it's how I got round the problem last year. I got mine in Debenhams.

i have this, tis great

Wrap-style dresses are good for b/feeding in. It's easy to whap a bap out in one of those.

Matching pashmina helps to preserve your modesty - if you have any (I never did )

Some nice b-feeding dresses here:

Oh Pannacotta, if only I'd seen this a couple of weeks ago! Have another wedding this week that these dresses would be perfect for.. I guess I'll just have to do more hoiking up/down/undoing of normal clothes..

Pannacotta · 10/12/2007 22:02

They look good don't they, was quite surprised as most b-feeding clothes look bit odd.
To a recent wedding I wore a pretty skirt with jacket and loose vest top under which worked quite well...

Lizzer · 10/12/2007 22:36

Oooo, those mummylooksfab dresses are sooooo me!!

hoppybird · 17/12/2007 10:43

Just bumping this thread up again as I wanted to thank Pannacotta for the link to Mummy Looks Fab. I bought this dress and it arrived today. It's absolutely superb - nice heavy rayon and a lovely deep red colour - very christmassy, and so flattering. I've never bought myself special bf clothes, apart from bras, and I'm so glad I spotted this thread.

Rubles - did you manage to get yourself a dress too?

Pannacotta · 17/12/2007 22:08

Fab, the dress looks gorgeous!
