Uni Qlo, anyone tried them?

What’s the quality like? What about sizing? I’m 5 foot and was interested in their lounge ware. It’s a shame they charge for returns as I don’t live near a store either.

Have just ordered from them for the first time after recommendations on here. Agree website and app are pretty poor. As a size 14 with a curvy tum I came out as an XL which has been horrific to come to terms with, so I hope it's worth it!

Shopaholic100 · 19/10/2021 16:02

@Shoobydooer you’ll have to report back with your verdict/. Since when has 14 been XL.

I love Uniqlo. Am also 5ft. I have found that their clothes are cut consistently very well. (Unlike Zara & H&M, whose clothes are cut with no attention paid to the grain of the fabric, so everything twists and warps the moment it’s washed.) Their clothes wash and dry really well and last for years.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/10/2021 16:40

I don't think you would need XL at a size 14. My mum is a 14/16 and she takes Uniqlo L.

blardyfeck · 19/10/2021 16:46

I have a couple of recently-bought merino crew neck jumpers. I'm a 14 and I like the XL as they're loose and comfortable. They're good basic jumpers, nothing fancy. The neck is quite high though, which some people don't like.
I also bought a long ultra light down coat. The L was massive so annoyingly I have to exchange it for a M or even a S.
I think the quality of their clothing is great. The sizing however is shite.

PyjamaMamma · 19/10/2021 17:00

Agree that the sizing is all over the place. I’m a 16-18, 5ft 4 and wear mostly their XL. I have a jumpsuit which is on the snug side and some pyjamas that are absolutely enormous. I have an XXL pair of trousers bought on their sizing tool recommendation but they are way too big - I’ve kept them as they are loungewear and usually stay inside the house, but sized down when buying another pair.

bimbimbap · 19/10/2021 17:58

I’m 5’1” and most things i have from uniqlo are XS but all oversized / baggy / elasticated waists so can’t really comment on fit. Most of their dresses & jumpsuits seem to have pockets which is a huge bonus!

TollgateDebs · 19/10/2021 18:38

I fine it good quality, washes and performs very well. Read the actual sizing / measurements for each item, alongside the reviews on fit and you will not go far wrong. I am a 20 and have a L to XXL from them, all based on the actual measurements. Men's t-shirts some of the best and I am currently wearing a breton top and velvet lounge trousers from them, purchased at least two years ago and still going strong. Much better than Zara, which has really gone downhill imo.

Love Uniqlo.
I am loathe to admit this in style and beauty but they have some really comfy bright fleeces this year😳🤣

Their non wired bras and heat tech thermals are also amazing. Bought some lovely double layer joggers as well which are warm as toast.

Also have had some awesome linen trousers.

Their refunds do take ages.

Love the fact Ds1 is now living in Oxford as I can visit the actual store when I visit.

@DotBall

Knitwear is fab. I am 12-14 and order their L or XL as their sizing is designed for the east Asian market (who tend to be more petite).

I find the opposite, I'm an 8-10 and their website size guide tells me I need a Medium. Every time I've ordered that, it's been too big, whereas Small is perfect.

I love their stuff OP. Particularly recommend the cashmere and the Heatech stuff.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/10/2021 19:12

DD was glad to have found a shop she could simply go in and buy stuff in acceptable quality, make and colour that actually fits her (1,58 m with waist and hips).

Justilou1 · 20/10/2021 00:06

Four more things… if you are ordering online, use a tape measure to measure leg length (inside seam and outside seam), waist and hips, bust, etc… They have sizing charts with measurements in cm and inches and are almost always extremely accurate. I am about the same height as you and don’t need to take up any of the trousers that are “cropped, or 7/8 length”. (I have a short torso and slightly long-ish legs, but not obviously so.) Their wire-free bras are to die for. You won’t go back. I have also discovered that they seem to be ahead of the trend with jeans. I have perfect, straightish jeans with a gentle flare that I purchased a couple of years ago (on sale) that are soooo on trend now that I have teens asking to buy them. (I bought them because they make my flat bum look great.) Some of their denim has no spandex which makes it harder to “wear in”, but if you get the right cut for your body, it’s totally worth it. It’s durable, they mould to fit you and they will probably last a lifetime. I wish I had bought a million pairs in that style because I love them so much.

StillMedusa · 20/10/2021 00:37

I live in Uniqlo.
Their jeggings are great... they feel like real jeans but with more stretch and plenty of colours/styles/ In the summer I live in their long loose t shirts.
Their thermal stuff is fab.. I have every level they do and it goes under everything in winter!

Shoobydooer · 22/10/2021 14:08
@Shoobydooer you’ll have to report back with your verdict/. Since when has 14 been XL.
Bought some joggers and loose fitting activewear trousers and they're both incredibly comfy but yes, XL is too big, I could have sized down.

As other posters have said, they're elasticated and just for around the house really, so can't be bothered with the rigmarole of sending them back. May try some jeggings next!

fhgr308090 · 22/10/2021 20:17

I love love Uniqlo. It is now my staple for basics......caveat - I mainly love it in East Asia. I am size 6 and 5.3 and really need to buy the size they have in East Asia. In the UK - they've adjusted everything to their US 'tall' size and it doesnt work as well for me. Years ago they used to sell both sizes i.e. for the Asian and North American market in the UK but have given up and gone for the North American sizing. Thats my only caveat really - otherwise great shop

AngeloMysterioso · 22/10/2021 20:32

I’ve got four of their fleece lined hoodies, they’re so snuggly and warm! Also the soufflé knits are lovely and cosy.

ninecoronas · 22/10/2021 20:41

Just shopped there for the first time, got a nice merino jumper and thermal cami, the site recommended me a size up from usual so I got a L (I'm a 12) that fit very well. I did get another "oversized" jumper though, and the reviews said it was massive, so got a M - again, good fit. So read the reviews! Quality is very good though.

eurochick · 22/10/2021 22:08

I buy thermals, thin merino jumpers and cashmere from there. I agree you need to try the stuff on.

I find it generally washes well and last pretty well - the thin jumpers do occasionally develop those little holes in the wash (not moths).

SallyOMalley · 22/10/2021 22:14

I like their clothes and wear them a lot for work: slim, slightly cropped (on me) trousers with shirts and merino jumpers, for eg. I also have a soft, fairly unstructured blazer in heavy Jersey which looks great. And in summer, I really like their long linen dresses.

I'm 5.7 (and a little bit) and either a 12 / 14. I tend to go for size L.
