How to look 'cool' London Look

DotCottonsFag · 18/10/2021 11:03

I dont know whether thats the term ... but how does anyone replicate the 'look' of some of the women who take the tube?

Their hair looks uncombed but stylish
They wear either black and white, maybe grey
White trainers or black boots
They look done but without being done IYKWIM
Where do they get it from? I want it!!

I've often thought a lot of Japanese women - especially the younger ones - look incredibly stylish but it's certainly not effortless and there's nothing I'd want to emulate.

I was also strangely disappointed in NYC. Had been warned about the hustle and bustle but didn’t find it that busy after living in London all my life. Not met anyone in IRL who thought this.

I do really like New York the city - the buildings and the waterfront and the skyline and the restaurants. And I like the compactness and how you can cover most of it on foot. (Obviously I'm talking about Manhattan, not the whole of New York.) And last time I went, they still had great bookshops. It was just the clothes watching that was a big let down. They seemed to have no high street - it was pretty much either designer priced or Walmart. They do have great consignment shops (dress agencies) though and I can forgive them a lot for that.

@nearlywed21 honestly I would say neither as 'white' trainers are sort of out. Or at least thats my impression from going on the tube etc. A lot more people are either wearing Vejas (these seem to be the only white trainers that are still acceptable) or New Balance - not whites ones or random chunky ones which are more likely to be grey or some other colour

They'll both be filthy before long, so it really doesn't matter.

There isn't a uniform, and asking other people which are 'right' or 'wrong' to wear is the opposite of the point. Wear whichever you like best, and repeat for everything else you're wearing Smile.

I love that look too - I saw a mixed group of young Japanese people last night on my way home and the combination of clothes which appear to be many sizes too big but still somehow neat and structured makes my brain hurt. I would literally look like I'd slept in a skip.

I agree. I think NY look is too polished and preppy. Overall London is more edgy, youthful (no matter the age) and creative. Less tribal, more fluid. Paris is very uniform (especially in terms of colour and slimness & hair) Tokyo is similar to London, without the mix of cultures/people (but still embracing their styles - like fashionable magpies) Perhaps more try-hard because of this lack of diversity compared to the other cities.
For NY I packed some (what I think is) pretty funky clothes. Band T-shirts, blazers, cool trainers etc. The first day I wore such an outfit I felt I stuck out like a sore thumb as everyone had black long puffer, black leggings or jeans, black trainers and so I just confirmed to wearing plain and black the rest of the trip, like it was one long funeral 🙃 but, I fitted in.

Riga is an interesting place. It’s very bling and showy in a ‘leather trousers, knee high boots, fur coats and all the designer logos on display’ sort of way. Again I stuck out like a sore thumb, mainly as I had flat boots or trainers on 😑

I've never understood the white trainer obsession.

White is for low cut canvas plimsolls like the Superga ones that you put in the washing machine and they are for wearing in summer. Maybe I am stuck in my ways Grin

Actually whispers - I've never got it either.

I do wear white trainers - but spray them beforehand and I'm the kind of person that white or cream clothes instantly attracts dirt so I've been lucky mine haven't got that dirty. Yet...
