Never go anywhere to wear anything nice

It occurred to me recently that although I have some nice, fashionable clothes, I very rarely go anywhere to warrant wearing them.

I have work clothes. Besides that all I do is the school run, ferry the dc to football and swimming, occasionally pop to the shops. Weekends are often spent walking, cycling and watching the dcs football matches or just going to the park.

At home I can't stand to be dressed in anything other than my comfy clothes then I will end up doing the school run in my old leggings and hoodies.

Feeling quite scruffy but my lifestyle doesn't seem to fit with dressing smartly.

What I find good is to have the nicest clothes for the activities that I do. So just because it's going for a walk, or hangng about at home, I don't need to wear old scruffy stuff, I can have good, functional clothes that still bring me some joy. E.g. a lovely wool jumper instead of a ratty hoody or decent sturdy leggings and not the ones that go baggy at the knees within 5 minutes.
I'm not advocating chucking out all the old stuff and buying a load of new. It's more of a mindset to invest long term in decent stuff for the lifestyle you do lead. And use the nice things you have.

Do you ever get a night out for a meal at a pub, etc?

This is such good advice, love it. Thank you.

I feel the same OP. Except I don't think I actually have anything that nice or fashionable lurking in my wardrobe. I seem to have hit 40 and not really know where to shop or what to wear anymore. I hate shopping in actual shops these days so everything bought online.

I felt the same and sold all my smart dresses that I used to wear when I worked in the City & frequented fancy wine bars and invested in decent loungewear / casual clothes / sportswear.

I also cycle a lot so replaced all my old tired Decathlon cycling kit with nice stuff from brands like Stolen Goat, Castelli etc that I enjoy wearing.

I bought decent wellies and waterproof, a nice gilet, replaced my old jeans with more current ones, and sold my high heels and bought “nice” trainers, chunky flat boots and chunky flat sandals. I have to walk a lot so heels don’t suit my lifestyle at all now.

Just because you don’t go anywhere “glamorous” doesn’t mean you can’t look nice & enjoy fashion

Oh and Vinted is my friend for buying and selling, although I used the “Recycle preloved cycling gear for women” Facebook group plus a couple of others for cycling kit
