Marionette / nasolabial shadow

onedaysoonish · 12/10/2021 16:00

I have a sort of shadow where you get marionette lines and nasolabial folds. Clearly I'm going to get the lines there soon but is there anything I can do to improve the appearance of the shadow for now / and perhaps stave off the full folds for a while?

I'm sure filler would help but I don't see how that could be done without a bit of a TOWIE effect and I'd rather have the shadow! For now anyway!

Thanks in advance!

I have had these since my very early twenties. So unfair. I hate them. Especially when I am not aging too badly elsewhere.

I used touche éclat type products around the area but it does not do much really.

I'm really, really not into cosmetic surgery,.but was so conscious about these I did consider it at one point. I guess I have just learned to live with them. A shame because I think they really effect how I look.

I'm lucky though as husband just says they are part of my face and perfectly normal. He's wrong, but still, bless him!

DameMaureen · 12/10/2021 16:44

They are part of your face otherwise you wouldn't be able to talk 😂

BelleOfTheProvince · 12/10/2021 17:53

But they are very pronounced in some people.
As someone who was compared to someone off lose women who had them when I was late teens I know they are noticeable. (I can't remember her name, maybe Carole?)

onedaysoonish · 12/10/2021 19:21

@BelleOfTheProvince I was doing the same! Used a funny pastel yellow pencil to make them look lighter. But you're right - doesn't do much!

I was hoping someone would say retinol will fix it but it's a couple of years or take collagen and your face will slowly plump up but oh well!

@DameMaureen happy with the muscle obviously - I like having a useable face 🤣 it's just the skin on top!! I guess it's losing elasticity or something...

Carole McGiffin ? She only really got them as part of ageing which they usually are .

I remember her talking about it vividly. She started getting them in her twenties. I remember because my so called friend was watching and turned to me and said, "oh yeah, you have them too. I wondered what was wrong with your face."

Had them since at the latest 20. They were bad then and have only got a but worse, but age me prematurely. (I'm thirties and everything else is doing ok, no grey hair etc).

I think it's one of those things where if you don't have them badly you don't really get it. I imagine mine have something to do with my cheekbones.

doorornottodoor · 12/10/2021 20:20

Facial exercises?

I get filler in mine and it is a great job .

onedaysoonish · 12/10/2021 20:34

Oh @BelleOfTheProvince I'm sorry what an awful friend. Sounds like you are doing pretty well with ageing if you have no grey hair though!!

Think I'm going to carry on with retinol, take collagen supplements and up my water intake and see. And if not then a teeny tiny bit of filler.

workshy44 · 13/10/2021 13:08

I don't have them at all, I think they are genetic but my friend did and got v subtle filler and she looks AMAZING !! it has made such a massive difference as they can be quiet aging. You wouldn't notice either like botox, she just looks rested and youthful. I would look into it if they bother you, lots of things I think cannot be corrected by filler/botox, often I think people end up looking worse but I think it is one area where filler really comes into its own and I am generally anti filler as I hate hate hate the puffy look.

ferretface · 13/10/2021 13:29

Be really careful with filler there, it can look unnatural. You might do better with midface/cheeks filler which has a kind of lifting effect on the rest of the face. Nasolabial lines are often worsened by the loss of volume in the upper part of the face and everything kind of slumping south (sorry) so if you can lift things above it they are improved quite a bit.

StrongSunglasses · 13/10/2021 14:23

Yes I agree with @ferretface - I was bothered by mine (30s) and went for a consultation for fillers and was advised against going into the actual lives, and instead to have subtle cheek filler (1ml across both sides) - the difference is incredible!

Such a small amount is more like scaffolding rather than shape shifting.

I’d recommend getting a few different opinions from a variety of highly qualified and regarded cosmetic practitioners before you make any decisions about where you want any fillers. Good luck op ❤️

StrongSunglasses · 13/10/2021 14:24

Lines* darn autocorrect- it wasn’t even incorrectly written, just changed to nonsense for no reason.

Leftbutcameback · 13/10/2021 14:28

@strongsunglasses can I ask how much the filler cost? I have these lines too and feel like everything has slumped so really interested to hear what a difference they made!

StrongSunglasses · 13/10/2021 18:32

It cost about £400 including the consultation- it’s a bit pricey but I’m ultra cautious in who I’d near my face with a syringe

The practitioner i go to (who is based at one branch of a chain of salons) is also an NHS A&E consultant so if anything went wrong I’d also feel like I’m in safe hands 😅😂

Good luck op! Wine

StrongSunglasses · 13/10/2021 18:38

It’s made a real difference to me - just subtle enough not to have changed any face shape, but basically looks like me but without the early phase of sagging that I had before 😱

I don’t think I’d have more than 1ml yet - it’s enough for me and not even due to the cost, I just feel it’s an improvement while still looking totally like myself and normal.

I would however love to try profhilo!

StrongSunglasses · 13/10/2021 19:09

Sorry forgot to @Leftbutcameback

onedaysoonish · 13/10/2021 19:19

Interesting @StrongSunglasses thanks for the tip. I guess that makes sense and I'm sure it's easier and less risky (in terms of getting a good result) to do a bit of cheek filler than try to copy the line.

Just googled profilho - looks great! How did you find out about it? It seems everything is sponsored or an ad these days so I find it's hard to actually find a real review of these things.

Leftbutcameback · 13/10/2021 21:36

Thanks @strongsunglasses - that's a doable amount, and it's a good point about the consultant. I had some bumps around my eyes removed earlier in the summer and it was a GP running the private clinic which gave me some reassurance (and I'm really happy with the result!)

This is what my doctor does - a small bit of filler around the cheekbones to lift and then at the lines but I'm in my 60s so it is pronounced . Your doctor should be your guide .
DameMaureen · 14/10/2021 01:07

Mine is 240 in the SE with a consultant doctor .

RonaldMcDonald · 14/10/2021 02:46

Filler for lost volume elsewhere or a thread lift and filler
Make sure the filler is used correctly - simply overfilling the nasolabial or marionette can accentuate the problem making the lower face heavy and out of proportion
Mid face filler including or beginning with filler in the pyriform area can make a huge difference
Only this or a mini facelift actually works
Please pay to have this done properly

allsorts1 · 14/10/2021 09:05

Filler in the lines done well can help combined with filler in the cheek to give a slight lift. But you have to be careful with filler in the lines as it stops the muscles working and you can end up with a weirdly long lower face over time. Better to do cheek filler to lift. I had amazing marionette line filler done years ago which completely sorted them for ages, but in the UK had it repeated and it looked awful so I had to have it dissolved. You need a proper Doctor to get it right I think.

Danielle8p · 21/04/2023 23:07

@allsorts1 i know this is old but is that true that having filler in the nasolabial lines can stop the muscles working? And when you say you can end up a with a weirdly long lower face over time do you mean when the filler has all dissolved? I'm struggling to picture what you mean ? I've been to a few consults and had it done today and they didn't mention anything like this and now I'm a bit panicked. Thankyou
