What foundation/tint to put on my 40ish face!

I’ll start by saying I ditched the makeup when the whole COVID thing started. So I don’t really know what’s out there now. I’m in my early 40s still have oily skin. Looked in rear view mirror in car today big mistake 😂. I need some coverage on my face a few thread veins, imperfections, the odd spot etc. I don’t like the feel of thick foundations on my face and have found in the past tints just slide off within a few hours. I also have a few lines around the eye area so need something that won’t settle in that area. Has anyone got any recommendations would be appreciated.

I don’t know but I’d like to know too!

Try IT CC cream everyone was raving about it a while back as it's sheer but has great cibfersfe

Coverage

Il Makiage. I’m 45 with decent skin so I don’t want heavy coverage, but I’m pale and can get a bit pink or blotchy. I also have oily skin so every sheer/buttery/tint/veil type products look great for an hour then my face just looks wet and it transfers to anything it touches (mobile phone covered in greasy foundation- yuck).

I recently tried loads of foundations in an attempt to sort it out and all bar 2 were awful. The best is il Makiage woke up like this. You do an online assessment and they send out a match to your skin. If you don’t think the colour is right they ask more questions and send you another colour no problem. The 3rd one I got sent was perfect and the customer services is so great it was so easy to send pics of my skin and say what I wanted. You need to apply with a brush though. It just melts into the skin and stays put. I’ve had a few comments about how great my skin looks with people not realising I’m wearing any make up. I use it with their fuck I’m flawless concealer under the eyes- which is the first one I’ve used that doesn’t sit in lines and draw more attention to them or look really shimmery and too ‘lit’ from above (I’m looking at you touché eclat)

I also use the Benefit benetint cheek stain (as I avoid too much powder on my face) which gives a seriously natural glow.

The 2nd foundation is a much cheaper day time/quick finger tip application for the school run type. It’s Maybelline Fit Me. Again it took a couple of tries to get the right colour as there are no testers any more but it’s super cheap. It looks very natural on me and again lasts all day without becoming shiny.

I too hadn't been wearing foundation all the time, but have used Clarins mainly for a while now as it just suits my skin. But I hauled out the reasonably priced Revlon colourstay mousse that I shioved in a drawer, and to my surprise it's so nice on my skin. It used to be a bit drying but it's not now. I think my skin may have appreciated the break tbh.

Probably doesn't compare to the more pricey options, but it's working for me.

MrsKoala · 11/10/2021 18:58

What moisturiser are you using op? Often skincare can affect how a foundation settles. I use a light gel moisturiser and oil free gel spf 50 and that creates a non oily canvas.

Taoneusa · 11/10/2021 20:02

I’ve been using Australian botanical spf50 tinted, and really happy with it. Evens out my complexion , looks natural, and really good protection. Nice big tube for £22!

Chill09 · 12/10/2021 15:25

Thank you for all your recommendations I’ll definitely be trying them. I don’t moisturise just cleanse as I’ve found they seems to make me even oiler

Glossier skin tint. There is no coverage in this but still makes your skin look amazing, it just takes the edge off. I'll never wear makeup again and now even find tinted moisturizer so so heavy !

doadeer · 12/10/2021 15:46

Erborian CC cream is excellent for me

ElvisPresleysSideburns · 12/10/2021 16:06

I'm 52 and recently bought this By Terry one, which is heavily discounted on Feel Unique atm www.feelunique.com/p/BY-TERRY-Hyaluronic-Hydra-Foundation-SPF30-30ml-FR.

I really like it. It's not heavy at all and does just feel like a serum.

My skin isn't too bad, needs some help, but I still want it to look like skin, not a a heavy mask and this one does that.
It's buildable, but even when I tried adding extra, just too see if it would look cakey, it really didn't.

InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest · 12/10/2021 16:29

I recently rediscovered Face and Body by MAC. It's buildable and looks very natural. I apply it with a kabuki brush and moisturise heavily prior to applying.

BelleOfTheProvince · 12/10/2021 16:30

Another vote for glossier. It makes me look like I have actual good skin as opposed to good make up.

SheWoreYellow · 12/10/2021 16:31

I like both the euborian and IT cc cream.
But I think I get the same effect with just a little foundation, applied with a foundation brush.

byvirtue · 12/10/2021 16:36

I’ve been using this new foundation from Trinny London it’s specifically for oilier skin. I actually looked in the mirror the other day and couldn’t believe my pores looked so tiny! I constantly switch foundations but happy to stick with this for now.

chickadeee · 12/10/2021 16:36

Trinny. You can do an online consultation and the cost is taken off your purchase. 100% worth it. Trinny products are excellent.

Peggytheredhen · 12/10/2021 16:37

I am 43 and use a Georgio Armani one with a good moisturiser, preferable Ren and it seems to look fine.... I think.

HereticFanjo · 12/10/2021 17:16

Watching for the suggestions!

HostessTrolley · 12/10/2021 18:07

I didn’t much like IT CC cream, it made my skin look greasy and kinda plasticky. I got a sample of eborian CC cream in with something else and have just ordered the full size as I loved it - fingers crossed 🤞

MrsKoala · 12/10/2021 18:26

Something which really reduced my oiliness is doing Skinandme. You tell them your skin problems/goals and the send you a night serum every month which gets gradually stronger.

They also recommend completely unoffiiated products which they think would suit your skin (in 3 various budget options). They recommended some Paulas choice products including a day moisturiser which has an spf 50 which I now use. I also rate Supergel oil free moisturiser by Facetheory followed by Heliocare gel oil-free spf50 as a good base. If I don’t use a light moisturiser my skin produces even more oil.

Goodmum1234 · 14/10/2021 08:27

I hardly wear any makeup and I’m 44
But when I have to I use Chanel cc cream. I bought it from Boots and the lady colour matched it to my oily skin. You need the tiniest amount and it covers and is light. Best £50 I have spent

JumperandJacket · 14/10/2021 08:33

Chanel les beiges healthy glow foundation is the only one I’ve ever tried that gives some coverage without looking like make up. It just looks like amazing skin.

SouthernFashionista · 14/10/2021 08:45

I tried the new Bobbi Brown Intensive Serum foundation and love it.

SheWoreYellow · 14/10/2021 09:36

I find a primer to be good on the oily front too. I use the Sephora one.

Seasidemumma77 · 14/10/2021 09:40

I've found, in the last couple of years, that my skin has changed and I have to use a good primer before I put on foundation.
