Suit for an hourglass/pear?

Hi,

I'm starting a professional job imminently (legal sector so boring black/dark navy suits only I'm afraid) and am really struggling to find even just a basic trouser or skirt suit that fits.

I'm fairly blessed of boob and butt but not quite enough to fit 'curvy' plus size ranges i.e. 39" bust, 27-8" waist, 42" hip/butt (all fairly approximate measurements but I hope this gives a rough idea). I usually wear a size 10 or 12 for non-workwear clothing.

Does anyone know of any brands that might offer a suit that fits? Either online or in-store (London based).

I've looked into getting a suit made but it's way too expensive, although I'm open to getting a suit tailored (I find that buying larger and getting clothes altered doesn't always work well though, so I'd rather have something that fits decently off the rack if at all possible).

I have the same trouble as you at Hobbs OP. However, I have had success with the Jigsaw Paris jacket that a PP mentioned. I have large hips so long blazers just make me look massive, whereas this is shorter and has a bit of a waist. There are matching trousers too. Good luck.

Interestingly ToManderleyAgain although those are both called Paris, they are different cuts - the seams are in completely different places. Both look quite good for a nipped in waist though.

Well spotted @minipie, I totally missed that earlier. Mine are most similar to the first link but the second link looks like it could be an even better fit for curves.

The Nina City Suit from Damsel in a Dress is quite short and curvy, and there are several different matching dresses as well as trousers. The skirts might suit an hourglass, they did not work on my apple shape.

and quite a few curvy tailored jackets here at Ede & Ravenscroft where I never would have thought to look.

Ooh good finds fernsandlilies!

Nannyamc · 20/10/2021 23:07

I am similar Ede and ravenscroft worked for me. Expensive but a built up capsule worked for about 3 years. Size 16 but they have never failed for a very professional look.

Ede & Ravenscroft fab, thanks a lot!

shorthairdontcare · 22/10/2021 18:51

Thank you for all your suggestions, I did a lot of further research based on them.

This is a happy update - I caved and went to Ede and Ravenscroft - whilst it has now wiped out a considerable chunk of my savings, I do now own a trouser suit that gasp fits! (Or at least it will hopefully fit once tailored 😅)
Thank you for all bearing with my frustration 😁

Ah that's great news!

Vintage Jean Muir is good.

soberisthenewpissed · 22/10/2021 23:14

Bombshell by katya is amazing, she's launched a range of suits which would be perfect.

gunnersgold · 23/10/2021 12:54

What size are you ? I'm hourglass and got a lovely red suit from zara , I sized up and it fits my bum fine !
I think it comes in different colours . Stand by

Armani is good. I'm an hourglass and they work on me. I buy mine on eBay - I won't buy new on principle as I don't see why I should spend substantial amounts of money to be looked at like shit on the salesperson's shoe. Not only am I an hourglass (36-24-37), I'm also short, and the posher the designer, the less likely they are to want me wearing their clothes and devaluing them.

I too dream of commissioning a bespoke suit one day. Maybe for my 50th birthday.
