Sadly mens jumpers have longer sleeves, higher necks, wider shoulder and thinner hips. It's like the opposite of what we want. I found something in H&M last week, wore it twice and it has bobbled, lost shape and looks 20 yrs old, in a bad way. I think you have to pay for a fine knit because those at the cheaper end of the market really deteriorate quickly.
I completely understand and relate. I hate chunky knits and mens stuff is huge on the shoulders and arms too long.
I dont like jumpers with a ribbed or fitted hemline. Unfortunately the shops only sell trend related clothes and every hemline from Brora to H&M to M&S to Pure Collection have fitted hems. There is a presumption we are all wearing high waisted jeans or giant, wode thick knits that could fit a truck in them.
The 90's were great for slimline, loose hemmed knits. You could get them in cotton, linen, wool, etc. The shape then was longer, and flowed over the body without swamping it or creating rugby shoulders.
I use ebay to be honest. you have to do some keen searching but i have managed to find a few decent fine knits from Poetry and other stores before everything turned into oversized, synthetic shite.
I cant name one single store right now, and i have done some looking! I stared a thread about it a few weeks ago and all the links people posted are to uniqlo (no chance) or obscure, small labels that on the one hand have decent ethics, but on the other still conform to boxy, contemporary trends.
I do find looser hems and occasional sleeker knits at Poetry, but pricey. It is good stuff, but might not be to your taste or colour preference. White Company used to be ok and don't seem as led by trends as some.
There are a few thinner, longline merino mix knits at woolovers and pure collection but i havent seen anything else.
If you find some let me know!
