Faded balayage?

Hi I'm wondering if you could give me some advice. I finally splashed out on a salon hair colour (after years of botched box dyes) and I absolutely loved it, lovely blonde balayage nice and bright. However... after one wash it's faded so much it's like a different style all together. Not awful but very different to the style that I loved when I left the hairdressers. The roots did need dying so I wonder if it's all faded together? I guess I'm asking if this is to be expected or if I should speak to the haridresser about getting it back to how it was? I was so happy with it and felt it was worth the cost but now I'm just wishing it looked like it did when I left the salon!
Thanks

What colour is it now?

bluestarlight · 09/10/2021 00:17

The lightest blonde bits are now much more of a light brown / Sri blonde colour. I only had it done yesterday, had to wash it today (bit of a long story as to why). Should I have waited before washing it?

It really depends on the kind of shampoo you used tbh. I learned my lesson a few years ago that the high street brands like garnier, L'Oréal etc. just strip the colour right out.

I now use a combination of Olaplex for condition maintenance and Fenola or Tigi blue or purple shampoo to keep the colour crisp.

Honestly I find that salon toner always washes right out or turns orange if they used a brown shade. I tone my hair at home with blue/purple direct dye mixed in with conditioner applied to dry hair before I wash it, and then just wash with purple shampoo. This keeps my hair cool and silvery.

@RacheyCat can I ask where you get the blue/ purple dye from. Thanks x

@RacheyCat and the brand please, I just looked on ebay, and there is so much choice, I want to buy the right one.

You can't fade or wash out bleached hair. It's permanent. I agree with the above; what's happened is that the temporary toner your salon used after bleaching has washed out. You haven't done anything wrong.

You do need to tone it at home if you want a clean bright blonde. I use Lee Stafford bleach blonde toning shampoo. I've tried lots and this is my favourite for neutralising yellow dull tones and its not drying. You can leave it on a few minutes on the balayaged hair before rinsing and it magically turns yellows to shiny platinum.

Be careful not to get it all over your bathroom, it's quite a bright purple!

Colour Vibe Ice Blonde Fast Colour Toner 100Ml

Use this toner and leave it on for 5-10 minutes when washing your hair. X

I use this it's very good for brightening the blond and eliminating brassy yellow

Thank you, I'll have to look into what I can do at home to help my colour to be how I want.

I'm still a bit confused as to how it seems so much darker after one wash when the bleaching is permanent (sorry if I'm being daft here!). I've attached photos to show how dark it has gone after one wash. The blonder one doesn't do justice to how nice it looked at first but it's the only photo I have that shows how light it was. Is it to be expected that it would change so much so soon?

I used John Frieda shampoo and conditioner that says is for balayage hair.

I don't see much bleach there at all ? Lovely hair by the way
I'd go back to the hairdresser and say that you only got one wash out of your colour
A salon toner should last a wee bit longer than that , mine usually 2-3 weeks then I use Fenola No Yellow mask for 5 mins only once a week until next salon visit

ShowMeTheSugar · 09/10/2021 23:25

Part of the difference between photographs will be lighting, bleached hair will show up lighter in good natural light/if you use a ring light.

I agree with others that some of the toner has washed out. Olaplex do a blonde shampoo now or Fanola might help bring the blonde back up

My colour looks totally different all curled by the hairdresser than it does when I’ve just blared it dry and all the light bits fan out into the rest. Try and find some light bits and curl them as one

If I was in the UK, I'd buy the Shrine Color Drops from Boots. Add them to cheap conditioner and put on dry hair. I use the Bleach London Silver Shampoo, but the benefit of toning a little more purple pre-washing is that you can then use a shampoo of your choice if you're finding the purple shampoo a little drying.
