Has anyone successfully re-dyed black jeans?

And if so can I asked which product you used and if you have any tips.

I have 4 pairs of black jeans that are all the perfect fit & comfortable so I don't really want to replace but they have gone that greying shade colour.

i used dylon black dye and worked perfectly

Grellbunt · 08/10/2021 19:23

Not black but done with navy

Dylon plastic sphere thingy, 5 quid from Amazon

WrapAroundYourDreams · 08/10/2021 19:28

Done it lots of times with black topshop Jamie jeans, with the Dylon black dye pods in the machine, works perfectly

Rainraingoaway21 · 08/10/2021 19:30

Yes I have recently used the Dylon one £5 from Amazon, although I noticed it in Sainsburys afterwards too.

Worked really well. I shoved 2 pairs of skinnies in together as they were only for work, and they came out really well. I think I would do just one pair per dye pot if I done it again though.

Make sure you follow the instructions exactly and run the machine empty after, also wipe round the rim of the drum as dye collected there. I made sure my next normal wash was a dark wash just incase!

All good.

Yes, do it in the machine. They will fade again but just see it as a job you need to do every year.

iwanttobeonleave · 08/10/2021 20:06

I did 6 pairs of navy jeggings a few months back and they all look like new. Haven't faded yet a d has saved me buying new. Definitely recommend!!

iwanttobeonleave · 08/10/2021 20:07

That was Dylan too, in the machine - it was excellent.

Plotato · 08/10/2021 20:08

Do it all the time with Dylon. Save yourself the faff and buy the marginally more expensive one that goes in the washing machine, not the one you do yourself in a bucket.

Question for dyed in the wool dyers (sorry, couldn't resist that pun!):

Can you save time by putting two pods in with two pairs of jeans rather than doing it consecutively?

Soontobe60 · 08/10/2021 20:19

As a side note, my Dh wears black Levi’s and he always washes them inside out- he swears that this reduces the fading, and I’d actually agree.

RampantIvy · 08/10/2021 20:22

Yes, Dylon black dye from Wilko's. Just pop the jeans in the washer with the dye. It works a treat.

yes. Check instructions, there is a max recommended amount for one machine load.

Always use the machine ones, they are much better, and last longer

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 08/10/2021 22:22

I used the Dylon one in the washing machine. Like a plastic ball thing. Worked really well.

thetesdybears · 08/10/2021 22:27

I tried Dylon but I wouldn't recommend. It made the rubber grey part of my machine go all streaky black and horrible. Still stained now about 2yrs later I can't get it out. The jeans also faded again quickly after a few washes 🙄

RampantIvy · 08/10/2021 22:41

I have dyed loads of jeans and T-shirts black with Dylon and never had any problems.

HoikingUpMyBigGirlPantss · 08/10/2021 23:02

Yes - Dylon works well

isthismylifenow · 09/10/2021 08:07

Yes Dylon is great stuff.

For those who find jeans are fading faster than they should, wash with colours liquid / powder on a shortish wash if they just need a spruce up. Turn them inside out and don't hang out in the sun. Dry them in a shady spot. If you iron them, leave them inside out for that too.

They will still fade, but doing this will keep the colour a bit longer.

shrugshrug · 09/10/2021 09:44

Did anyone have a problem with the black Dylon dye - did any of it remain in the drum and stain other washes ?

RampantIvy · 09/10/2021 09:48

No. Although I made sure that the next wash I did was for dark clothes.

WrapAroundYourDreams · 09/10/2021 10:36

Never had it stain other washes- I sometimes run a washing machine cleaner through the machine after and give the rubber seal a good wipe. I'm not sure if it stained the rubber- maybe temporarily? But don't really care as long as it's not actually staining other clothes when they're washed.

KirstenBlest · 09/10/2021 14:14

@Grellbunt, the one pod will probably do 2 pairs.

Gatekeeper · 09/10/2021 14:19

I use the wash and dye one by Dylon. I get it in Home Bargains for £2.99

Grellbunt · 09/10/2021 15:38

That's a fab price!!
