Have you ever changed your hair to copper?

Would you recommend it?
Anything I should consider?

I've brown hair and sometimes have honey/caramel colours in but I fancy a change.

Not sure if it will suit me either Confusedbut I love copper hair on other people and want to try it

beautiful colour... do you have warm skin tones..

go for it 🎉

MintLampShade · 07/10/2021 13:55

Oh I have....from blond highlights to full on copper. I was literally in tears for days. None of my clothes suited the new colour, my make up ended up looking all wrong, not match the new overall look that my hair gave me. All things I never even considered. I ended up going chocolate brown within a week and gradually going back to blond over the next two years. Never again 😂

What appeals to you about the colour? And have you considered if it will go with clothes and make up etc? Not even sure if it's a thing to be honest, or if it was just me. I would have never thought it wold change my entire look so much, I was shocked! The colour itself was lovely, professionally done and styled. I still love it (just admiring it on other people haha!)

HairyDuck · 07/10/2021 14:08

I just think it's a beautiful colour @MintLampShade . I'm worried it won't suit my skin tone tbf, I really don't know. I'm not too fussed about clothes etc as I'm a sahm / single / ft student so I never really go out out, I'm just a bit worried how it'll look for me

I think I have a warm skin tone?

Have a look at eSalon. They will recommend a suitable coppery shade for you to try out that matches your current hair colour and skin tone, and then maybe even go copper in stages.

They're expensive, but the products are really good.

Oh I think it would absolutely suit you!! I can totally see it on you 😉 You have lovely completions and "warm", kind face, OP!

What I meant about clothes was more the colour of clothes looked awful with my new copper hair as I used to love bright colours which suited my blond hair & quite neutral day make up :)

Are there apps or websites where you can use a photo of yourself and it shows different hair colours?

Yaty · 07/10/2021 14:43

I used to have copper for years and I loved it for the first few washes but it would always fade out quickly. Tried all sorts to keep the colour longer but the initial vibrant tones just gaveouldnt last so in the end I've gone for a warm balayage as at least it lasts and I feel like it's definitely better value for money. Might just be my hair but my hairdresser did say reddy tones do fade quickly.

Yaty · 07/10/2021 14:45

Oh and I agree with the PP it does clash with certain colours of clothes but that never bothered me. I've got blue/green eyes and they used to look amazing with the copper hair.

Fancymice · 07/10/2021 14:49

I dye my naturally blonde hair copper, and there are a few things to consider

It fades really quickly, even if it's permanent colour, so it is high maintenance. I always end up having to use semi permanent colour to brighten it up between using permanent dye every 6 weeks. I imagine as your hair is dark you'd have to bleach and use a semi permanent over the top.

With every semi perm copper ive tried, the colours rubs off on soft furnishings, so will destroy white pillows. We have a blanket on the back of our cream coloured sofa like an antimaccasar to prevent my head staining it!

Fancymice · 07/10/2021 14:55

For a lower maintenance/more subtle copper you could go for balayage, then over that a semi permanent copper colour, so you keep your natural colour as roots/lowlights.

QueenBee52 · 07/10/2021 15:03

lordy yes.... you're beautiful ... Copper will look great on you

PinkFootstool · 07/10/2021 15:05

Yes, I do it. I'm a mousy brown, very pale skin (Scottish) with green eyes, so it's a very natural look for me. I love it - it warms up my complexion.

I find boxes more reliable than hairdressers though - they keep trying to turn me orange and can't seem to understand copper is different.

doadeer · 07/10/2021 18:35

I lived copper hair I had it for 3 years. I don't have a warm tone but it still suited me.

I think it's a lovely colour

doadeer · 07/10/2021 18:35

Loved not lived haha

HairyDuck · 07/10/2021 18:51

I used e salon a few times in the first lockdown, but because I want a few tones in my hair I think I'm going to try a salon this time @Jaxhog thank you

Thank you for your lovely comments @QueenBee52 and @MintLampShade ☺️

I hadn't considered copper would fade quickly or rub onto fabric! I've had dark red tones before and they always faded quickly but I assumed copper wouldn't for some reason, so I'll bare that in mind, thank you. And I definitely hadn't considered the colour coming off on fabric!

I hadn't thought about balayage @Fancymice. I'll have a ponder on that idea, I quite like it. I'd need a base colour though as my thick, wiry greys need covering 😁

Thank you everyone ☺️

Gwenhwyfar · 07/10/2021 18:59

The hair colour shouldn't rub into fabric at all. Get a proper colour at a salon.
It does fade really quickly. I dye my hair red every 8 weeks, but for four of those weeks it's a washed out dark blonde/light brown. I still love it though.

LashesZ · 07/10/2021 18:59

Copper would look fab on you. I've been red for 15 years (no idea what my hair colour is naturally anymore). People actually think I'm naturally red and i get so many compliments. Try it and see, for some it washes out straight away but I think with build up it really lasts. I only do my whole head every 3 months and roots in between.

HairyDuck · 07/10/2021 20:21

So you get a colour of sorts every six weeks ish @LashesZ ? Not sure if the upkeep is putting me off a bit

OP posts:
Seesawmummadaw · 07/10/2021 20:24

I usually have copper balayage and haven’t had trouble with the colour fading too quickly. My hairdresser is amazing though.
I think it would suit you (you are beautiful by the way).

forgotmyusernamagain · 07/10/2021 20:31

I'm sure there are hair colour websites where you take your pic or stick your face live into various hair couloirs to see what suits you !
I think copper be lovely on you
And ... your eyebrows are goals

HairyDuck · 07/10/2021 20:48

Thank you so much @Seesawmummadaw and @forgotmyusernamagain for the lovely comments. I tried an app yesterday to see how my hair would look, I'll post it in a sec, was rubbish 😂
I've been drawing my eyebrows on since I was 15 @forgotmyusernamagain and last week I decided to get them pixel/ micro bladed and I love them. I still need my second appointment to finish them off in a couple of weeks but it's really cheered me up you saying that because it's something I've always been very conscious of, so thank you.

I turn 40 in a couple of months and think I'm having a bit of a crisis in the last few months of my 30's regarding my looks . Either a crisis or sorting myself out, can't decide 😂

Have you ever changed your hair to copper?
OP posts:
FazeleysRoyale · 07/10/2021 20:50

Imagine if you changed your actual hair to copper wire filaments (as your title might suggest).

After you had been out in the rain a couple of times it would go bright green.

I'm sorry OP, I'm just joking and I couldn't resist.

Seesawmummadaw · 07/10/2021 21:08

@HairyDuck how was the micro blading? I love yours but it scares me! What if they did them too dark or wrong? Also does it really hurt?

HairyDuck · 08/10/2021 10:37

I was thinking about it for about 18months @Seesawmummadaw and have been watching before and after pics of a salon owner nearby for about a year. Thought I'd just go for it. It was quite uncomfortable but I wouldn't say painful. I didn't have the numbing gel so it would have been less uncomfortable with that I guess. I'd definitely recommend it though. Because it's done over two sessions you can always ask for a lighter tone on your first appointment, I'm definitely asking for a darker tone on the arch when I go back, and more microblading

Green hair 😂I definitely wouldn't suit that
