Where to shop as a petite but fat woman?!

lookatgiraffenow · 05/10/2021 21:32

I'm 5ft-nothing, with large boobs and a definite covid-curve tummy. Bingo-winged arms. I'm pretty much a barrel, if you like. My legs are ok.
I'm working on the weight-loss but where the hell can I go for clothes? Petite ranges are for slim short women...where do fat short women go?
Any help on where to find simple work trousers, a work dress and maybe a couple of nice floaty tops that don't look too disasterous and I'd be very grateful.

This is me too! Hoping for some inspiration.

I shop mainly at Seasalt and FatFace

Also me.

I have elasticated waist tailored trousers from Massimo Dutti and have them hemmed by a drycleaner.

I wear Uniqlo shirts cut like rugby shirts, so without a button placket, which means my big boobs don’t make my shirt gape.

Then big Cos or Massimo Dutti jumpers over the top. Men’s cashmere from M&S is good too.

I try to put the focus on my shoes, bag, and earrings.

I am the same and go for the boden petite range or sea salt usually

Chunkymenrock · 05/10/2021 22:03

Yes this is me. I always buy work trousers at Bon Marche as they do 4 leg lengths and they are smart and a good price. Have bought a few good tops there too. I do struggle with other things though, especially jeans. I never know where to go!

redferrari · 06/10/2021 08:02

I buy petite trousers from next (I am size 16), they have been ok. Still looking for jeans, debenhams used to have a petite range but although I bought from next the leg length is too long for me so have to get it shortened.

StColumbofNavron · 06/10/2021 08:06

I mostly wear dresses and find Dorothy Perkins curve range good and Next standard but large size. I do have to be careful with longer dresses.

I don’t wear trousers/tops that often because they make me look like I have swallowed a rock and flowy tops feel like a tent.

I'm 5 foot and size 18-20 this time of year I live in either seasalt or frugi dresses with tights and boots

Great natural fabrics which I have been known to dye so I get the colours I really want, olive green is a favourite.

Thank you for the replies. Seasalt in particular looks interesting so will have a nosy.

Watching with interest, especially with regards to winter clothes. Huge boobs and apple shaped, no nice coats ever fit me.

ChrissyPlummer · 06/10/2021 10:31

Simply Be, I find their own brand playsuits fit well; cover tummy, deep V on the chest, no chub rub! I wear with Snag tights. Also their booty shaper jeggings and jeans.

OublietteBravo · 06/10/2021 10:35

Have you tried M&S for work trousers? A lot of their range is available in a short length. How about these?

lookatgiraffenow · 13/10/2021 20:09

Just re-hashing this thread in the hope of any more ideas (though of course I'm grateful for responses so far)...today was not a good shopping day. At all.
Went to a few shops including M&S (which has concession of Seasalt) and John Lewis. Things for short women are still two inches (at least) too long for me. The bigger sizes (to fit over my chest and stomach) absolutely drown me elsewhere.

I am so frustrated and fed up. It shouldn't be this hard. Will someone please start a short-fat clothing business; I'll be your most loyal customer.

In an ideal world, we would indeed have no issues buying off the shelf. I try and remind myself that it's easier to take up hems than to make something longer.

I buy from Poetry Fashion and rather enjoy dying the hemp/cotton tops to be exactly the colour perfect for my wardrobe.

Wondaweb to take up hems, I tend to buy short or 3/4 length sleeves, so they don't swap my wrists and hands.

All good really.

LadyLyndon · 17/10/2021 16:17

White Stuff jeans or Good American if I’m feeling flush.

White Company for tops or the Bravissimo clothing line (whose name I’ve forgotten).

1frenchfoodie · 17/10/2021 18:55

I’m 5.2 and 7/8 length trousers work on me with a small gap at the ankle, may work perfectly at 5ft. For Boden’s tailored 7/8 trousers the waist/crotch length is as good as any petite range.

CurryLover55 · 17/10/2021 18:58

Reading with interest as I am 5ft 2.5 ins & 14 stone ( size 18 to 20).

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 17/10/2021 19:17

I’m 5 foot 4 so probably slightly taller than most here but also barrel shaped and size 18/20! I tend to get my work trousers from M and S (Autograph) and Saint and Sofia. Have some lovely tops and dresses from Mint Velvet and occasionally Monsoon. Occasionally find something dressy at Coast. For casual stuff I like Fatface and Joules. Coats from Joules! And occasionally spend a small fortune on something at Marina Rinaldi (but if trousers they have to be taken up as they leave them super long on purpose!).
