WFH what will you wear this winter?

With the energy prices rising my husband has told me to stock up on jumpers for the 2nd winter working from home so I don't have the heating on all day and night.

What are you go to outfits/loungewear for working at home in the winter?

I do have zoom meetings several times a week but we are quite casual even the md shows up in a hoodie sometimes to our zoom calls

I have to do school run as well so needs to be appropriate for that as well.

Ideas?

The Sainsburys thermal base layers are good and a lot cheaper than the M&S ones.
I tend to wear those with another layer or two, a big scarf and often wear a gilet too. Multiple pairs of socks are very important! I will often have a hot water bottle on my knee I'd have my plug in blanket but they can't be seen.
Colleagues sometimes comment on the gilet but I just reply that I feel the cold compared to the rest of the household or my desk is based in a cold bit of the house (both of which are true)

Base layers !

Heated throw is a gamechanger.

Clothes-wise, my WFH winter uniform is flannel pyjama bottoms, sheepskin boot slippers, long-sleeve T, thin lambswool or cashmere jumper, then a Celtic & Co Donegal coatigan over the top. Usually suffices.

I have various wristwarmers, but my faves are microfleece b/c they're fine, soft, flexible and warm and thinner than my cashmere ones. Got them from here, and a pair for DS, who was getting cold red hands at school with all the ventilation: [https://annafalcke.com/]]

Don't know why that isn't working, definitely put two brackets Confused

M&S have usually got some quite trendy long sleeved thermal vests in.
I have 4.
--Or does the fact I've used the word "trendy" show my age and therefore render them "untrendy"?
DDs like them though.--

Ive always wfh, although in a creative capacity, so don't tend to have frequent view calls.
It's always been PJ bottoms, leggings and a comfy top - soft, loose wool, cashmere or if warmer a long sleeve plain tee.
Nothing will change for me, but thick socks and slippers are great way to keep warm when there's a draught hurtling around one's feet on a chilly afternoon.

I wear minimal makeup generally and just keep tidy hair of not going out, so not a lot of difference here whether going out or not.

Cynically, after doing 20 yrs of this I have to say I suspect there will be a hole in the market to fill, with corporations urging us to spend spend spend to 'get the look' just right. It is of course all complete bollocks, and is just another way to accumulate waste and fuck the environment. The interiors industry will get on board and will be encouraging everyone to remodel their bloody houses to follow wfh 'trends'. It's fairly predictable isn't it?

I am such a joy aren't I? Grin

Hobbs sell nice simple long sleeve T-shirt type tops with a collar. Add any woolen jumper and you look fairly smart for a zoom meeting yet comfy

Caspianberg · 03/10/2021 14:52

Also giesswein or living kitzbuehel slipper. They are warm, yet also don’t look too slipper like if you walk around room and on camera

LivingDeadGirlUK · 03/10/2021 14:54

We have an electric heater for the office so we can heat the room instead of whole house during the day.

cricketmum84 · 03/10/2021 14:57

There will only be me in the house working during winter this year. We have a cheap to run electric heater so I will put that on during the day rather than heating the whole house.

Thick lined leggings, long sleeved dresses, I have some vintage thick cardigans from a vintage fair that are lovely and warm. Boot style slippers and a cozy blanket over my knees (and probably a cat or two)

ChristmasPlanning · 03/10/2021 14:57

Fir those suggesting thermal bases are any of the vests long? I hate vests that only come to my waist. I would prefer ones that come to the bottom of my bum ideally

MrsFin · 03/10/2021 15:33

M&S vests are plenty long enough.

Chocachocaholic · 03/10/2021 15:47

Thank you so much for all your suggestions! I am going to have a good read through them all this afternoon and do some damage to my credit card 🙈

I do have my beloved Sherpa fleece blanket which I use on the sofa for chilling so may have to use that too. Never even thought of a hot water bottle but that sounds so toasty, will be investing for sure! In fact pretty sure my daughter has a teddy one in her cuddly toy box she won't miss, as long as I keep it off camera no one will ever know 😂

I had some fleecy shirts from next last year that I wore shacket style with tshirt or polo underneath that were lovely and warm and looked fine on the zoom calls as well as on the school runs. I saw something very similar in primark the other day they had a few nice neutral colours and were a bargain at about £10 each.

DGFB · 04/10/2021 20:53

M&S thermals are brilliant for the price, I get the extra warm sets and the fleece-lined leggings. All a bargain and wash well. I then tend to layer merino wool jumpers over them so I’m presentable for zoom. Bootie slippers and I’m good to go!

Passthecake30 · 04/10/2021 22:17

Bed socks, bootie slippers and wrist warmers are my go to. Also joggers, shirt sleeve T-shirt, long sleeve tshirt, hoody.

However, I’m fortunate in that I work in an area which has underfloor heating, so I can turn that on in isolation to the rest of the house.
