Breast reduction - anyone get it? Did it improve back pain?

I am a bra size 32G and I have constant upper back pain (behind my neck). I have noticed that I’m starting to look really slouchy and slumped and have been working on my posture. But even at bed at night I struggle to find a position where my upper back isn’t hurting!

I am sure it’s because of the weight of my boobs.

I also have constant marks on my shoulders because of straps, can’t find a properly comfortable bra.

So I am considering a reduction. I am a little scared Confused and I would like to go down as small as a B! Is that a bit drastic?

I would love to hear other people’s experiences!

Did the surgery improve back pain or posture if you had those issues?

How was scarring? And recovery? How long did it take before you could exercise properly again?

I'm a 32G as well OP and 5'7 size 10-12 and used to get upper back pain. Two things sorted me out (after an osteopath "usefully" told me it was most likely due to inactivity Hmm I had two dc under 3yrs, was running around constantly!). First was getting a new mattress and second discovering shock absorber max bra. Love the minimising look too - not mono-boob but nicely rounded and I no longer feel like I'm going to have someone's eye out Grin

Sali Hughes, Guardian beauty editor, wrote about her reduction in Vogue, and made a video on her Instagram about her experience… could be useful to read/watch. She’s really pleased with her outcome.

I had mine done about 10 years ago. Before the op, he asked me what cup size I wanted to be, I said a D cup. After the op, he told me he had taken half a pound of fat off each breast. It made a difference, but in an ideal world I would like them even smaller. Not small, but smaller. So remember, surgeons don't have much idea of cup sizes, they think in terms of the wieght/amount they take off.. . so you have to think in terms of the amount they take off.

Oh I really like her! I didn’t know she’d had a reduction. I will look this up, thank you.

I lost 5 lbs when mine were removed. 21/2 from each boob.

5 bags of sugar. No wonder l was in such pain!

Those of you in your 30’s beware. I didn’t have much pain before 35. It was downhill from there.

Wow!

Yes i’m in my early-40s and the neck / upper back pain has really started ramping up. I can’t even get comfortable in bed at the moment!

I am going to look into physio in the meantime.

I’m really appreciating hearing how everyone has got on! I’m so glad it’s worked out well for most of you!

I had one a few years back and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I wanted to go drastic, down to a C cup but the surgeon would only keep me in proportion so I went from 28hh to a g. Sounds big but isn't really - I look proportionate and there is no weight to them so I can happily remove bra at home whereas this would have been unthinkable before.

The back pain literally went within a week or two of the operation!

I had one 20 odd years ago. I went from a G to a D and obviously lost the drooping effect that caused most of my pain.

Downsides - couldn’t breastfeed so if you’re not done with family I’d consider this.

  • anytime I gain any weight it goes straight to my breasts first.
  • I have keloid scarring where the incisions were done which can still be uncomfortable 20 years later.
  • very little nipple sensitivity.

That said, I was so self conscious of my breasts pre op that nobody ever got to see them naked or test the sensitivity!
