Good quality petite trousers

Can you help me find them?
I'm looking for some good quality, petite, wide leg trousers for work.

In the past I have had them in wool blend or cotton blend and worn them to death!

M&S used to be good for this kind of thing trouble is that their quality has dipped so much in recent years.

Plain colours, nothing bright, but can have a subtle check or similar.

Has anyone seen anything?

Oh I came on here to suggest m&s!

RedSparklesGreenSparkles · 02/10/2021 21:26

Previously M&S would have been my suggestion too, I ordered some of their jersey trousers a couple of months ago and they were such poor quality.

It seems that you can still buy good quality trousers from M&S if you are regular height. I could buy regular length and have them taken up, but it will cost me about £10 per pair.

I have similar issues! Boden? Dorothy Perkins? Otherwise yes it’s annoying but I guess taking them in…

NotMeNoNo · 03/10/2021 08:40

Boden and Hobbs have petite ranges.
Wide leg trousers do often need to be a precise length so the £10 isn't necessarily a waste, if you can pick up good quality non petite pairs in the sales.

RedSparklesGreenSparkles · 03/10/2021 11:41

As I am looking for thicker trousers I can't find any in the sales at the moment.

NotMeNoNo I'm in my 40s. It's not just trousers but dresses and skirts that often have to be taken up too.

I'm looking to spend around £70 - £150 on each pair of trousers. I need 3 or 4 pairs. So that 'it's only £10' becomes £100 + over the course of a year, which is a significant amount of money.

Given that I'm in my 40s that's £1000s over my lifetime so far.

Boden is looking most promising so far llikeviognier I would buy from Dorothy Perkins, but I'm not sure about the quality.

Honestly I feel your pain as I'm petite as well. Fortunately I have a sewing machine and can do my own shortening (of almost everything I buy). I'm not sure I follow the maths, but it's not as if it's wasted money in alterations. For a start it probably goes directly to a worker in a local business.

I have to say though, it staggers me there are so many clothes, even expensive ones, but in a small range of sizes and only one length. Both of which don't represent the average person!

NotMeNoNo · 03/10/2021 13:17

Also, have you looked at Banana Republic?

RedSparklesGreenSparkles · 03/10/2021 13:54

I've always wanted to do a sewing course, nothing fancy, just the basics but we live rurally and even our local colleges don't run the courses.

I do understand what you mean about it not being wasted money. But, as you know, petite trousers are difficult to get hold of in the first place and they aren't often on sale because they are scarce in the first place. Paying to have them taken up every time feels like a further tax on being short!

I have looked at Banana Republic but all of the reviews say that their petite trousers are too long and they only have one pair of wide leg trousers that I can see?

Next do a petite range which are quite good. I’ve also got things from Précis petite and Boden, and if all else fails use that Wonder Web stuff.

NotMeNoNo · 03/10/2021 14:07

As an aside, sewing classes in small shops and businesses have sprung up all over the country in the last few years, (if UK) it might be worth Google of your county.

Doesn't help the immediate problem that most clothes for sale now are cheap, limited choice or don't fit most of us.

WellTidy · 03/10/2021 14:31

I need petite length too, and I feel your pain about wanting wool/good weight. I am useless with a needle and thread but have you ever used wundaweb? It is great for shortening at home.

My wool wide leg trousers are from Boden by the way, but a good few years old now. Nobody is wearing wide length in work with me and haven’t got a while, so mine aren’t worn to the point of needing to be replaced. Everyone is in cigarette trousers or fits like that.

Boden Richmond trousers always get amazing reviews and they come in petite, if you’re looking for a different fit.
