I've booked myself in for microblading as my sparse brows are quite fair and never seem to grow well.

Anything I should know or ask for? What's the healing like? Does it hurt?

Would you recommend microblading?

It hurt me anyway, I took ibuprofen for the top up.
So I'd recommend taking some about 30 minutes before your appointment.
It was itchy when it was done for about 5 days and it nearly killed me not to scratch it!
But not sore once done.
I just had to keep water off it and put beeswax on a few times a day for a week.
It looks terrible at first so don't panic, takes a week to ten days to look good.
I have mine done 3 years and am only now thinking about topping up.
I got phi brows done and they are expensive but I am glad I got them.

I've had mine done twice.
No numbing cream either- don't recommend wearing any mascara and especially not eyeliner as your eyes water like mad so have a tissue on hand to wipe your eyes

It's not painful. But take the numbing cream as it's just easier for them to do it and not worry about hurting you or you flinching. Doesn't take long either.

It's a weird sensation. It's literally just scratch scratch scratch. You can actually hear it and I think it's so weird.

They'll look a bit harsh at first but fade to a lighter colour. They'll be red around the outside for a few hours but fades quick. I went round town after shopping and no one looked at me weird so it's not that obvious.

Keep them dry! No water! And don't scratch them.

Do. Not. Peel. Scabs.

Then follow the care advice to a T. When you moisturise them it will feel a lot better.

The only thing I found annoying was pulling facial expressions after- felt like I had a bit of sunburn on tight skin 😂 didn't hurt tho!!!

I found it incredibly painful even with the numbing cream. I had it done before chemo and I was glad I did. Not sure I would do it again tbh.

Got it a few months ago and it's one of the best things I've done!

Things to know:

  • it hurt a bit more than I was expecting at times but mainly ok. No where near a tattoo pain.
  • the scratching noise is a little off putting when you realise that's your skin being scratched with a blade!
  • it made me sneeze! She said that was quite common.
  • first appointment took about 2 hours. Had a chat through things, drew them on, numbing cream, microblading.
  • I had really researched who I went with and she was wonderful. Really listened to what I wanted (quite natural) but I completely left the shape up to her as I had no clue. She took ages measuring and drawing then let me look at the shape before starting. She insisted that she's be completely happy to start again if I wasn't 100% with it.
  • oh my god they go dark as they heal! I'm blonde though so they were quite shocking. I definitely felt the need to give everyone I met a 30 second speech about having just had them done and that they'd go much lighter when healed.
  • after care was a bit of an inconvenience to not get them wet, but it's not for long.
  • on my second visit, she asked if I slept on my left (which I do) as the rubbing on the pillow had meant that side had a bit less pigment. So if you're a side sleeper, maybe try to switch sides every night
  • not picking/ peeling the little scabs is really really hard
  • they can look a bit of a mess for a few days when they're in the scabby/ peely phase but unless you're heading out somewhere and would be really upset if you could be made-up perfectly then it's fine.
  • I was told to put nothing at all on them for two weeks. But I week in I had to work in the full sun, 26 degrees, no hat, for hours so I weighed up getting my eyebrow area burnt or putting sun cream on. Chose the cream and I can't say it had any negative impact. But unless you're somewhere hot, I can't see anything like that being an issue with this weather!

I'm so happy with them. I used to pencil them in every day even if I put no other makeup on. Now I happily just leave them as they are and if I'm just doing normal every-day makeup I just do foundation, eye shadow/ liner and mascara. I've only added pencil to my eyebrows on the couple of occasions where I've gone for a more fully made-up look for an evening out.

Good luck!

These were all really good tips, thank you! I hope you're well now @marmiteloversunite Thanks

I didn't have the numbing cream - she said it was available if I decided I wanted it though. It was ok, a bit burny at times but was manageable. I only had 1 nose twinge 😁. The noise was so strange! It really was like scraping the skin, sounded like death of a 1000 cuts!

I decided to go with some shading as well as the microblading, I think the style suits me more than just microblading. It's a little dark at the moment but she said it will fade.

I've some vitamin gel to put on twice a day for the time being and I go back in 6-8 weeks for a too up.

So far I'm really pleased with them 🤞thanks for the advice everyone
