Calling all Gudrun Sjoden fans!

They are usually quite expensive but they are doing a 20% sale for any one item.

So this dress would be £51. More than what I would usually spend on a dress! I periodically look at the site but there doesn't seem to be many sales. Is that a good price for Gudrun Sjoden?

Sorry I can't help with your question but the do seem to have a loyal following and decent resale value. Iirc there's a FB group where fans buy and sell. I have a sneaky peek sometimes but have never bought anything so can't help you there!

Pheasantlysurprised · 28/09/2021 13:54

Well I love this stuff, but it wouldn't suit me, which is depressing!

Makes such an incredibly interesting change from endless threads about balloon jeans (wtf) and mom jeans with cropped tops, and on trend hiking boots that will never be used for hiking. I think most modern trends make everyone look like a tired cardboard cut out (in floppy denim) waiting at a bus stop with heavy shopping bags in the rain Grin

But this stuff is so refreshing. Im not mad on the colour palettes but I love the lines and creativity, the shapes and attention to details, textures of Gudrun.
I am a small pale blonde and have the impression I shouldn't pull any of it off, and most of the models are lofty brunettes which possibly proves my point.
My ideal would be a pared down version of Gudrun, with softer tones and colour options. And oh my god I am not a fan of the shoes!

Pheasantlysurprised · 28/09/2021 13:56

oh and you would pay more for a piece of polyester tat from Joules than you would for the Gudrun dress, believe me. Joules also having the lowest ethical score of many contemporary brands, too.

I personally don't think the prices are an issue with GS.

onlychildhamster · 28/09/2021 14:00

@Pheasantlysurprised my MIL is an orthodox Jew and she loves this brand as its easy to convert to modest clothing. But I am buying this for myself!

I am a petite East Asian in my 20s so probably not the target customer (seems to be middle aged lady who goes to pottery class). But I love prints! I wouldn't do the layered look, would just wear the dress alone.

@Pheasantlysurprised But i buy joules dresses for £25-35. I only buy in the sale. But you are right, I would expect to pay more for Gudrun Sjoden!

but this sounds perfect! I would definitely gravitate to GS if I were you, especially the colours and prints (just can't condone the shoes, hehe).

I do love the multilayered look. it is like a more sophisticated and bohemian alternative to the too-cutesy 'cabbages and roses' aesthetic (www.cabbagesandroses.com/clothes/new-in.html).

I wish more brands were this creative and adventurous. It certainly beats the comoaratively drab 'top&jeans' silhouette that has become such a safe mainstay in western day to day style.

ADreadedSunnyDay · 28/09/2021 14:16

My friend has a tunic and it's beautiful and well made. Really suits her as she is tall and willowy. Sadly the clothes look hideous on me (short and fat)

onlychildhamster · 29/09/2021 11:29

Got DH to buy the dress for my birthday!

Now looking at this one (oh no)

I'm more a balloon jeans kind of woman Wink but I still admire the look even though it's not my thing. I've got a question though: didn't it used to be a lot more expensive? I know it's still not cheap but I'm sure I remember prices being much higher than this - have they changed hands or something?

BigFatBloomers · 29/09/2021 13:27

As a previous poster mentioned, there are a couple of resale groups on facebook.

People are often selling brand new items. Well worth a look if you like the style

elizabethdraper · 29/09/2021 13:46

Thank you.
Just got a pair of leggings and a dress.
Love their stuff

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 29/09/2021 13:50

They're quite expensive but I DO like the look - I graduated in a GS dress!

HouseOfFire · 29/09/2021 13:54

why do they show them all with layered clothes, very annoying

nordica · 29/09/2021 14:24

I love the quality and they do seem to hold their value well (for resale). I pick and choose certain styles only though as I don't suit the full layered look and don't want that. Their basics are amazing though, some of my favourite striped tops and cotton/linen blend jumpers for example come from GS and they wash and wear so well.

ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2021 14:48

I’m a huge Gudrun fan, right now I am wearing a wrap dress, shoes (I know, but they are comfy) and a long cotton coat. I’m 4’11 and not skinny, you just have to choose carefully. Anything bulky, like their knit jackets, is out!

onlychildhamster · 29/09/2021 15:02

@ChaToilLeam Great, I am 152 cm so around the same height as you. How does the length work for you? I am not skinny too for my build but normal BMI.

OP posts:
onlychildhamster · 29/09/2021 15:02

@ChaToilLeam the length of the dresses! I tend to wear dresses.

OP posts:
ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2021 19:39

The length can be a challenge! I often wear tunics as a just-above-knee length with leggings or tights. Anything longer tends to come up as a midi. I can sew though, so can alter sleeves and hems if need be. I’m a size 14 and find that size M generally works for me. I often need a smaller size in GS than in other shops so as not to be swamped by mighty swathes of fabric.

please take what said about the shoes lightly, I am not qualified to give anyone advice, I am a shambles Grin
ChaToilLeam · 29/09/2021 22:29

@Pheasantlysurprised no worries 😂 I have small feet but they are wide as shovels so I can scoop up size 36 in the sales! I do love a comfy shoe, but they are hellishly undainty.

Craftycorvid · 29/09/2021 22:40

Been a Gudrunista for years. They vary a lot in terms of style. Autumn and winter are best. Summer styles tend to veer towards ‘children’s TV presenter having an emotional crisis’. Mind you, some of the winter collection can be somewhat ‘creepy victorian toddler’ Grin. The ethics are good with as many sustainable fibres as possible. Shoe sizes run about half a size large for me - annoying given they don’t do half sizes.

And I’m middle aged, have dabbled in pottery once in a while!

Luvacuppatea · 30/09/2021 06:42

Gudrunista here too - love her stuff 😊. Well, not all as I’m probably a bit below average height and size 8/10 so have to take care that items aren’t too ‘billowy’ or they can be overwhelming. Never had any quality issues and am enjoying browsing the site to see where I can use my 20% off 😊. Check up about online returns though - I’ve never (yet) returned anything, but I think it might be at your own expense? The only footwear I have is a couple of pairs of boots. Bought by usual size and as they are ‘roomy’ they are beautifully comfortable with the addition of a pair of socks for warm winter feet
