I thought ten days in Spain and TLC with Clarins would do the trick........... NADA

They did their best to grow, but nothing like previous years, I had a vicious cancer five years ago, where I had chemo and radio in tandem, you can imagine the toll on my body, Confused then after four years when I had dispatched that I discovered a tiny lump in my left breast(.2019) Lump now also dispatched and hair is growing back, but nails are shocking.

Is L'occitane any good, Clairin's not hitting the mark at the moment.

If they are really dry I would recommend O'Keefe's working hands. It's not expensive but really helps my cracked dry hands in winter.

FinallyFluid · 25/09/2021 11:24

Thank you, worth a thought, have stuck it in the Tesco shop.

I am 57 and I have been through a lot, I am not trying to hold back the years, I just want halfway decent nails......................... Grin

For nails rather than dry hands? Nothing works better for me than baby oil

Fuckmyliferightnow · 25/09/2021 11:29

Tweek'd by nature 5 in 1 rescue cream. In vanilla or chocolate.
Helped my skin after chemo. Nothing else has even touched how good this has been. It was made by a man who's mum had cancer, he designed it for her apparently.

I'm a bit obsessed by hand cream so always on a quest to find the most effective one. So far my favourite where I really notice a difference is from Aesop:

I use L’Occitane and think it’s brilliant.

I don't think you need to spend loads on a hand cream for it to be super effective. In fact, I'd go as far as to say the lovely pricy fragranced ones from the cosmetic houses might make your hands smell great but they do bugger all for cracked or very dry skin.

The best one b y far I have found is Lotil. Not fragranced, not glam or lovely in any way, but you can buy a big tub of the stuff for a fiver and it works on the sorest, driest hands in a couple of days.

JaneJeffer · 25/09/2021 12:26

Ziaja barrier hand cream. DS has problem skin on his hands and this is the best thing for them.

I'm a care worker and my hands show the toll of constant hand washing, gloves and alcohol gel. The best cream I've found is Palmers coconut hand cream, though the cocoa butter version is a close second

Dinoroaraus · 25/09/2021 12:35

L'occitane works well for me. They do a more intense one that I use at night with cotton gloves

CookieDoughKid · 25/09/2021 12:37

Really thick, hydrating and long lasting.

Anoisagusaris · 25/09/2021 12:38

If it’s for your nails rather than your hands, CND Solar Nail Oil is great.

What about a parafin wax manicure? And ask the therapist what they would recommend for nails? Go to a decent place, not a nail bar.

Feedingthebirds1 · 25/09/2021 12:40

If it's your nails you're bothered about, try a specific nail growth treatment. This one gets really good reviews (and it's on offer on Amazon right now).

Anoisagusaris · 25/09/2021 12:41

L’occitane is the best hand cream IMO.

CorianderAndCream · 25/09/2021 21:20

Try OPI Nail Envy! It helped my brittle nails

FreeButtonBee · 25/09/2021 21:35

Yes the l’occitane hand cream is really very good and is the only one I buy but agree a good nail/cuticle oil is v important as they target different things.

DGFB · 27/09/2021 18:51

I find l’occitaine too thin but really love Liz Earle hand repair. It gets me through the toughest winters

Apileofballyhoo · 27/09/2021 18:58

Keep your hands out of water, don't use any SLS ingredient shampoos, soaps or shower gels. Kiehl's is the best hand cream for skin I've every used though I don't know about nails specifically. But I've been washing dishes by hand while waiting for my dishwasher to be fixed and my normally hard nails went soft and flaky. A supplement might help. Daily consumption of dark green leafy veg improved my nails hugely. Broccoli mainly!

tidesley · 27/09/2021 22:15

I'm sorry you've had to go through all that Flowers

I have terrible nails but when used consistently, this works for me:
file with leighton denny glass file
cnd rescue rx treatment (similar to a nail oil) or
nailberry acai nall elixir (gives a nude varnish finish)
fulvic acid nail cream from Victoria Health

Also my hands are very dry, so I use body scrub on them daily and put on a tiny bit of O'Keeffes hand cream. I have Neals Yard Frankincence Hand Serum treatment on my wish list for Christmas.

Nailgeek · 04/10/2021 11:42

I can highly recommend Nursem hand cream and hand wash. It was designed for nurses who obviously constantly wash their hands. It was the only thing that saved my ‘horsey hands’ last winter, when the cold and damp played havoc with my skin. Worked better than O’Keefes for me. The Bodyshop hemp one is good too although very strong smelling.

ArabeI · 04/10/2021 12:36

Some sort of omega/cod liver oil supplement for the nails. Plus, paying back a recommendation I picked up here; CND solar oil, I think it's called. From Amazon. Smells lovely and is good for the nails.

Handcream. I always go back to Molton Brown handcream, but standard Cerave moisturising cream (the one with hyaluronic acid) I use for an intensive treament. Cotton gloves overnight after cream, when I can be bothered (so very rarely).
