Resurfacing treatments for acne-scarred skin?

Has anyone successfully had any treatments that have helped their acne-damaged skin? I suffer from hormonal acne and for the past few years my skin has just been sad and sore. I've finally got it into a good place (still break out around ovulation and period week, but overall it feels softer and is healthier and happier than for a long time!)

I've had a couple of hydrafacials and I love them, but I'm wondering if there's a treatment that will resurface my skin texture without being too harsh (my skin barrier is still healing so I am scared of things like dermaroller or really strong chemical peels).

There's so much choice, thought I would see if anyone has first-hand experience and good results!

Hi! If your skin barrier is still healing, then definitely don’t disrupt it without tremendous care. Like after a peel, slather with aloe and use a led red light mask.

Resurfacing your skin is something you can do very very slowly if you have potentially sensitive skin.

Something like this may be worth a try www.revolutionbeauty.com/uk/en/skincare/serums-and-treatments/serums-and-oils/revolution-skincare-sensitive-skin-peeling-solution/1176118.html?gclid=

It’s a bit pointless resurfacing is you’re continuing to have breakouts. You’re trying to get rid of scars yet contains to develop more scars? Do you see what I mean. I would be v disappointed if a service offered resurfacing without fixing the underlying problem first, in fact I wouldn’t take their advice.

FWIW, I’ve had Fraxel and it was v good on the few scars on my cheeks but not so great on my bad area - my chin. It’s quite the outlay and it’s a bit uncomfortable. Would I recommend? Yes. But only when you’ve stopped making new lesions (as much as is humanly possible)

Microdermabrasion is great at smoothing out skin

The Elemis Dynamic resurfacing range is nice.

Have a look at QVC, you can actually try the procucts and return them.

Thanks all! Will check these out!

@seniorandjunior I see your point, believe me. I've had acne all over my face since I was 16; cheeks, temples, forehead mostly. That's where a lot of the scarring and uneven tone is. I'm now 33 and really only get breakouts along the jawline and chin (classic hormonal breakouts). I would like resurfacing on my whole face for overall appearance. I accept I will continue to break out, it's just my skin. I'm not expecting miracles!

Products don't do much to control the breakouts I get now; it's all systemic and really about my physical health, so I'm just using the best products I can to keep my skin as happy and balanced as it can be while starting to think about ageing and my moisture barrier.

Again, thank you everyone!

Honestly you need to treat the acne before you tackle the scarring. I ended up with horrible scarring after horrendous adult acne. I tried absolutely everything including 6 sessions of costly Fraxel laser and, for me, by far the best was micro needling. You will need a series of treatments administered by a doctor/nurse and ideally followed with red light. Made an enormous difference to my skin. I’ll never be scar free but it’s better.

Best of luck with it as I fully understand how debilitating it is and the impact bad scarring can have on your mental health.

It really is just a bacterial infection that gets a monthly dose of fertiliser thanks to progesterone upping oil production. You really need to speak to your dr about this because it gets a lot worse at peri-menopause when our oestrogen declines. I limped on for years until at 41 I went spectacularly cystic with 5 or 6 new cysts every night.

I ended up taking roaccutane after refusing it at 30. I would’ve taken capsules of dog poo if they’d have cured me.

I’ve still got a red scar from cyst-zero 3 years ago & I honestly think if I live to a 100 that red mark will be there taunting me “Didn’t listen to your dh when he said you need the dr did you?”
