I'm using aldis version of Aussie Miracle shampoo and conditioner and my hairdressers yesterday said she couldn't believe how shiny it was so it must be doing something.

Could you try a (non colouring) henna shampoo?

MrsWooster · 24/09/2021 19:42

I’ve become a bit evangelical about faith in nature shampoo bar (lavender and geranium). It seems really gentle so hasn’t stripped oils out while not leaving it greasy, which is a bit of a win win. It’s in better condition than it’s probably ever been.

This is brilliant (and half price) www.wilko.com/en-uk/tresemme-hemp-conditioner-400ml/p/0496610

Apple cider vinegar rinse with cold water as the final step. Add some olive oil and honey to your shampoo/conditioner.
Use almond oil as a leave in.

@Taoneusa I tried the vinegar rinse last week and it was great! But is it bad to do it often?

I used to love linco beer shampoo it made my hair literally squeaky clean, shiny and smell gorgeous. Nearest version to it is Superdrug's Anelco beer shampoo and it's only a couple of quid.

I think it depends on your hair. I do it every week, and it helps my hair because it’s soooo dry that I use tons of conditioner and tend to oil it practically every day. The vinegar prevents product build up.

The only way to know, is to experiment. I like using supermarket solutions. I haven’t tried egg/beer/avocado masks because mess and I don’t drink beer, but I’d like to try them.

Try some cheap squeeze honey mixed with your conditioner, it’s a humectant. My hair likes it.

Thanks for replying. I’m the same with hair oil. I will definitely give the honey a go.

Hope honey also works for you. Use loads!

I let it sit in my hair for a good few minutes with the conditioner, and while I’m at it I rub honey all over my face… because moisturising, softening, and helps even out complexion. If you do it with a damp face it isn’t sticky, just smooth feeling.

Dove 2in1 shampoo & conditioner - under£2.
Leaves my hair soft, shiny and easy to comb through.

I have long hair that can look dull, used to use Aveda but can’t afford it anymore. I now use a clarifying shampoo first on my roots/top of head first (I use one the clarifying pre-shampoo by Head & Shoulders) then Garnier Ultimate Blends coconut & macadamia shampoo on lengths and Elvive colour protect conditioner works brilliantly. It was trial & error to find this combo but it’s just as good as Aveda for me. Key is using the clarifying shampoo to get rid of build up. I may use it once a month on the lengths too. But can be drying so only use on the scalp when I wash hair mainly.

I'm going with the curly girl method at the moment and am washing my hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. The condition of it is so much better since I stopped using shampoo. It's important to use a conditioner that doesn't contain silicone, as it acts like a wax and stops your hair from absorbing moisture.

A 1 litre bottle of Aveda Shampure will last me a year ( bit less if my DS helps himself ) I know its ££ but when I have it I don't go looking for something else , its my Holy Grail.
