Foundation for skin with pigmentation damage

My skin has always been dry and sensitive. I’m outside a lot wearing daily sunscreen nowadays, but I haven’t always , and have several dark pigmentation spots. Yesterday I applied my usual foundation, max factor miracle touch and my face looked stiff and cakey and just flat. I’m 48 and my skin has become really dull, what can I use to give me a more flattering finish? It’s been ages since I bought anything different, and the compact one is quick and easy to put on

I suffer with sry skin too and have been through alot of foundations. Some have been great coverage but feel very heavy on the skin and can cake easily. At the minute I'm wearing the loreal infalliable 24 hour. It's light, great for dry skin, doesn't cake and is buildable aswell if you want more coverage. I brought some more yesterday and it says spf in it too which I never noticed before. See if you can get a tester pot and see how you get on

Thanks! I will try. I think I moved away from the more glowy type of foundation for coverage and the ease of using a compact.

Personally I would go for something lighter coverage like a BB cream or tinted moisturiser with SPF, and then use a liquid/blendable concealer on any dark patches. Of course, you need to make sure the colours match fairly well.

I also use a beauty sponge to put mine on. I wet the sponge squeeze it then apply the foundation it gives better coverage on my dark circles and a little goes a long way with this foundtion too.

Something like boots No7 hydraluminous night work. You can build coverage but it makes you skin look lovely without the overly dewy finish.

Clinique Even Better Foundation, they do a normal one and a glowy one, aimed at correcting skin pigmentation (over time).

I tried out trinny bb cream with concealer last night and it wasn’t quite enough. I think I’d like to try one of the dewy ones. Does using a blender help? I have a couple and found that they just soaked up the product, but sure there is a technique. Forgot about the Clinique, sounds good. I may give retinol another go in winter

I used to use Miracle Touch then changed to Double Wear which I apply sparingly with a good buffing brush.

I have patches of melasma on both cheekbones under my eyes. I use the IT Cosmetics CC cream, find it quite dewy and it doesn’t totally cover my melasma. It’s quite buildable, but stays dewy/wet on the skin, so I do powder my nose and t-zone.

Are you using your beauty blender wet? It needs to be completely saturated and then wrung out and then used for your foundation. I prefer to use a dense foundation brush.

I use this one;

Never tried cc cream either. No, I was using the sponge dry, I will try it out wet. I have a foundation brush too, not used that for a while

I've just purchased Lancome teint idole which is quite nice, it's a satin finish and isn't as thick and harsh as Estee Lauder Double Wear. I like it. I'd say its a medium cover but can be build up.

LucyLatimer · 24/09/2021 14:31

I’ll try out boots for some samples, wonder if they’re doing those again yet?

I'd add some niacinimide to your skincare routine, it should help reduce the pigmentation.
