Help me find a backpack

I need a backpack (could be a changing bag but doesn’t have to be) for going out and about with 2 kids. I need to bring nappies, snacks, cups and usually a change of clothes for my mud loving toddler.

I’m currently using a pack away one that I used to take on holiday for days out and it’s not up to the task of daily use.

I like the look of the fjallraven kanken ones but the straps don’t look that comfortable for the price. I just want something that’s not a kids bag, not a hiking backpack and not with a spirts brand emblazoned on it.

I need one too and am thinking about a roka backpack but am not sure how comfy the straps will be.

Dakine make excellent ones, they’re more sporty and practical than stylish though.

Get one with a sternum strap, so helpful.

I picked up a Vango Stryd22 a few weeks back, it holds tons and looks kinda old and classic. I love it.

JustHowILikeIt · 21/09/2021 20:20

Roka are comfy.

Alwaysfuckingsick · 21/09/2021 20:22

I just used a vans bag when mine were really small

Wotwhywhen · 21/09/2021 20:22

This one.
I don't think it's overly sporty or hikerish or school baggish...
(And only 20 so I can throw it around and not cry too much if it rips...)

Have a look at Cabin Zero, lots of different sizes, colours etc. Just enough sections in the standard backpack to be useful without feeling like you're back doing your DofE Bronze 😂

Topbird29 · 21/09/2021 20:36

I like osprey backpacks. Hold a lot and great straps. Get mine in black, which reduces the hiker vibe.

excitednerves · 22/09/2021 21:57

Thanks everyone! I do like the Roka ones!

Lots of great suggestions, I’m off to do more research now!

I like the Rains ones as they are water proof.

Roka are nice too.

We have bags and backpacks from both of these companies and can recommend them:

Roka also wash well! Handy to know!

I use a Jem and Bea backpack as a change bag and general kid stuff. Love it. Here's the link to the one I have...

Quidity · 23/09/2021 06:25

I also have a Roka and love it. Surprisingly spacious, washable, useful pockets.

excitednerves · 23/09/2021 14:43

Thanks everyone. I will be listing after Roka and Gandys bags for a while. I couldn’t quite justify the cost as I’m currently on the unpaid bit of mat leave so I ended up picking up this today on a whim whilst I’m the shopping centre

www.accessorize.com/uk/frida-canvas-backpack--blue-19009341.html?currency=GBP&dwvar_19009341_color=NAVY&quantity=1

It’s got the simple, structured look I was after - let’s hope it lasts!

Cath Kidston’s pocket range are the best in terms of value in this space if you can get one in the sale between £24-35. They are wipeable, have useable pockets, and comfy straps.
Immaback · 23/09/2021 14:52

the tiba and marl Elwood changing backpack is great !

indigoemerald · 23/09/2021 14:54

I worried about this before I got my Kanken, but the straps are surprisingly comfortable and don’t dig in! I think you can also buy pads for the straps too if you do find them uncomfortable. 6 years of daily use from my Kanken and I still love it.

JumpingJellyfish1 · 23/09/2021 18:29

I've just got a lovely one from Kind Bag - I think its a laptop backpack, but it has loads of pockets, including two bottle pockets so would be perfect for a change bag too. Loads of colours and the bonus is that it is made from recycled bottles, so I feel like I'm doing my bit!

Softpebbles · 23/09/2021 19:16

I bought padded straps for mine and my daughters FJR back packs. Comfortable and practical.
