Help. What to wear to Chelsea Flower Show?

Have been looking forward to this for ages, but suddenly realised I have zero idea of what to wear? I have 3 double wardrobes full of clothes but struggling to think of an outfit!

Bloody hell, is there a dress code?
I'm going in a couple of days and was just planning to show up in my usual combo of jeans and DMs.

Are you are going in a decorative-champagne-drinking capacity (frocks, heels, poss hat) or an actual attending-a-busy-open-air fair capacity? If the latter, where the most comfortable shoes you can find, and something that won't annoy you after a day on your feet/will cope with the weather (eg not jeans if it's going to rain...). I've been a few times (freebie) and worn walking trews/top through to nice summer dress and never felt out of place.

Comfy shoes are a must. Loads of walking/standing and sometimes not the steadiest of ground, especially if wet. Casual if you’re not dining/drinking as a PP said, but if you are it’s not day at the races smart, more smart trousers and top or nice day dress.

I'm going on Saturday and posted a similar 'help!' thread a little while back. The weather is looking cloudy but mild. I want to look nice but also want to be very comfy (and my outfit needs to double up for the purposes of a Brick Lane curry on the way home).

I'm going for a midi length cotton dress. It's sleeveless with a flowery pattern. Wearing that with white trainers (which I wore all summer so not beautiful now, but super comfy). I'm taking a demin jacket as a cover up, but might put a cardi in my bag if I want something softer.

Have fun. I can't wait. It's my first childfree day out with my husband for over two years....

Some people dress like it's Ascot, but you will be fine in anything from jeans and a t-shirt upwards.

Comfy shoes are a must though, there's a heck of a lot of walking and not all that many places to sit unless you are actually eating.

I’ve been before. It doesn’t matter what you wear. Some people are very casual. Other folk dress up a bit but not over the top. I would echo what other folk have said- you definitely need comfy shoes.
Hope you have a lovely day

Thank you. I've just checked the weather and it's looking sunny and mild. I've decided on a maxi, Zara shirt dress in black/taupe/cream pattern with black Chelsea boots with cleated soles, which I know I can walk forever in.

Not sure about a bag? Whether to go tonal with my black Mulberry or contrast with a claret cross body bag?

Your bag needs to be big enough to carry essentials and bottles of water and snacks.

I'm going again this year. Last time I went straight from work and thankfully had sensible shoes with me. Comfort is the most important thing really as you'll be on your feet for hours.

I'll probably wear a summer dress with a cardigan and canvas shoes, given the nice weather.

That's a good point. Neither of those bags are very big at all.

Have you got a bigger bag, take spare carrier bags too for things you want to buy especially plants.

Doomscrolling · 21/09/2021 16:56

Definitely take water and snacks. They had bottle refilling points at the Tatton Park Show. Food kiosks are always crowded and expensive so a bite to eat to keep you going is often welcome. There’s so much walking and standing.

I paid £4.50 for a 500ml bottle of water recently at a UK event which is such a rip off.

AppleWitch · 21/09/2021 20:12

I went today. Floral dress (predominantly green) with trainers/sandals/comfy shoes seemed to be the go to but also lots of people in jeans/shorts etc. Not many places to sit so you may end up sitting on the grass.

Take plenty of money or your own drinks & snacks. £3.50 for a can of drink/£3 for a twister lolly/£16+ for a pint glass of Pimms Shock
