Please help - moisturiser recommendation needed for >60 skin

I've had oily/combination skin all my life but have managed it really well up til now. I wear a moisturiser with spf daily, I have no loyalty to any brand but buy whatever takes my fancy. Have bought at every price point over the years, and am currently using Olay total effects 7 in one with spf30. BUT its started to pill on my skin. As did the last two different ones I've used.

I can't keep throwing away moisturisers. Can anyone recommend a nice one? I'm wondering do I need to go more high end? What if I spend loads on one and it does the same?

My skincare routine is that I wash my face morning and evening and then apply moisturiser. If I've been wearing makeup then I cleanse thoroughly before washing. Sometimes I wear a serum but tbh I don't see the point. About twice a week I use a gentle exfoliator.

I have really good skin with few lines which I often get compliments on. Up to now I've taken a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach but well, now at 60 seemingly its broke Confused

Any help/suggestions would be so much appreciated!

I’m 58 and swear by Neal’s Yard Frankincense nourishing cream. Lots have recommended Aldi’s stuff to me but I have sensitive eyes and find it makes them water.

I've used both the Aldi caviar and their Q10, thought they were both good but my skin can tolerate most things (or could up to now).

I've just googled Neal's Yard and I see they have a range for "mature" skin, I'm very interested! Thank you for your reply.

No 7 have a range for older women which I use and find quite satisfactory

Geamhradh · 21/09/2021 13:44

If a cream pills it's because of the silicone in it.
I am 55 and love the Neal's yard frankincense mentioned above. But, there are three different ones and I only like one- the nourishing. The hydrating wasn't enough for me and the more expensive intense is the product that has pilled on me more than anything else I've ever used!

Have you tried Nivea, the basic Nivea Soft is lovely, shame I can't tolerate the fragrance as it does wonders for my skin otherwise.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/09/2021 13:46

If it pills it's because something has silicone in it and the make up can't sink in.

MrsVeryTired · 21/09/2021 13:49

Agree with @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor my DMum swears by standard Nivea.

I'm 57 and use Nivea Q10 range. The day cream is very light and elastic, not at all greasy and doesn't leave the skin feeling tight. The pore cream is a great primer if you wear foundation. The night cream is stickier - more like Nivea Soft, and a bit greasy, so I use that only in winter when the radiators dry my skin out.

Boiledeggandtoast · 21/09/2021 13:56

I'm 60 and use Nivea Refreshing Day Cream (SPF 15). I've been using it for years (ever since Neutrogena stopped their wonderful day cream) and it suits my normal but very sensitive skin. I tend to buy lots when it's on special offer at Sainsbury's.

65 and sensitive skin. I switch between almond oil, wheatgerm oil and avocado oil as a moisturiser plus a separate sunscreen, normally Ultrasun Face (the sensitive skin one). If I feel the need for something a bit heavier, I use either Dr Organic moisturiser from Holland & Barrett or Nivea blue pot - I'm always amazed my skin doesn't react to Nivea because it's so perfumed but there you go.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I didn't know that about silicone pilling, I checked and my Olay has dimethicone which apparently is silicone.

So I went and bought the Neal's Yard frankincense nourishing cream, will try it tomorrow. I also bought some Elizabeth Arden Ceramide vitamin c capsules in TK Maxx as I had them years ago and loved them.

Finally I got some Nivea night cream which I'm about to apply now; I've always loved Nivea but as I say, I've no loyalty to any brand and buy whatever's new or on special offer, or even whatever has interesting packaging.

Oh and I've used the No. 7 before but I didn't get on with the smell at all.

I'm looking forward to having smooth glowing skin soon! Thanks again, I knew I'd get good suggestions here.
