RETINOL - I'm a new comer and have no idea!

Hi all,

I keep seeing in mags and even on here that retinol cream is widely used to improve the appearance of skin - and I'm keen as ever to join on the retinol band wagon but I've no idea where to start, what to buy and how effective it really is!
I was hoping for some advice off anyone who recommends and uses it. I hate my skin. I have some acne scars (not major) and I get the odd spot. Lots of white heads or skin coloured bumps deep under the skin that never surface and you can't really see them without a magnifying glass. Was thinking of a chemical peel but anxious to get one unless it's from a medical clinic and they are so so so out of my price range.

Key things I really want to know;

  1. Will it help with acne scarring?
  2. What is the best product to buy? Recommendations...
  3. How effective is it REALLY?
  4. Stories on how it helped you, if at all?
  5. Retinol or retatonic acid?

I didn’t get on with Tret but I use Differin and Finacea and my skin is clearing up beautifully ♥️

Does anyone know if Dermatica/Skin and me do a retin A gel? My skin so much hates oils and creams that the base does me more harm than the retin A does it good.

Yes I do use a moisturiser on top of it, if I remember correctly you use retinol after any very light liquid products but before heavier ones and then finish with creams.
Either way, I have been using moisturiser on top of it and it’s been working well 🤣🤣

@Hamsteronrollerblades

Skin and Me is better than Dermatica, in my experience. Better customer service and the formulation causes less reaction. Dermatica caused a flare up of Roseacea that they then provided zero support with while skin and me were much more helpful and sorted my awful (hadn’t been before Dermatica) skin out.
@Hamsteronrollerblades glad you mentioned rosacea! I use Dermalogica products so could I use that with them?

Well I use their cleanser and moisturiser so I hope so! Am def no expert to ask though:)
