Do you contour your face?

I'm so bored with my make up, it always seems to look a bit 'flat'. I'm 54 and don't want to look like I'm trying too hard, even though I actually am. 😂 I've never contoured and not sure if it's a look for my more 'mature' skin or not? I do like quite a natural make up. I'm not trying to look younger, just a bit more sprightly!

Any advice?

I use blusher and then put some powder highlighter above that. Sometimes I use a darker shade below the blusher as well. I also use No 7 Skin Illuminator under my foundation. Keep the contouring subtle but it does make a difference.

There are some great tutorials on YouTube for older ladies. I agree you don't want to overdo it but, with the right products it really helps. I am rubbish with make up luckily my 14 year old dd is quite good at giving me advice.

Not really, I'm pale and it generally looks awful if I do.

I tend to create dimension with cream blusher, highlighter, a small bit of a more taupe toned blush as a contour of sorts on the cheekbones and then a pinker shade on my cheeks, all applied fairly lightly.

I was watching this one the other day. Probably still too many products for me but I did like what he did. There's another one on the same model which is a bit more for evening

I’m in my late forties and love a bit of contour.

My face is very round fat and I find contouring helps.

LordOfTheThings · 18/09/2021 17:38

Part of the problem is that I haven't a clue even where to put any contour in the first place. 😂

How to use contour? Put the contour powder in the hollow under your cheekbones (can see it if you suck your cheeks in). Blusher on the apples of your cheeks and highlight above that. Contour can also go under your jawline and down the sides of your nose (if you want to make it look narrower). According to when make up set in the 80s (shader, blusher and highlighter), anyway. Grin

I don't bother though. Just apply the blusher. I like quick makeup.

I'm 49, and do use a bit - the Maybelline chubby contour sticks are easy to use and blend nicely. It really makes a difference, but you can make it very subtle. I'm very pale and it helps me not just look washed out, esp on camera

lannistunut · 18/09/2021 19:03

I am always very intrigued by contouring, it looks really freaky.

nc4565 · 18/09/2021 19:09

YouTube tutorials! They will help you.

I always contour my face when I go out.

Hdhdjejdj · 18/09/2021 19:33

I do. I have quite pointy cheekbones anyway but I have developed a liking for contouring

AnnieSnap · 18/09/2021 20:25

I enjoy a little make-up, but I can’t be bothered with contouring.

Bobsyer · 18/09/2021 21:31

The only contour I use is Illamasqua gel sculpt. It's really sheer so very forgiving, but really gives a perfect 'shadow'. Because it's a weird gel texture, it doesn't look like anything on the skin.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/09/2021 20:09

I'm pretty sure that I've seen blusher used to do the same thing as contouring ie make your cheeks look thinner. When I asked about it on here I was treated as if I'd said something mad, but I still think that might be the shortcut.

mowglika · 20/09/2021 11:49

Hourglass do create contouring videos, they use a very light hand and it looks natural on the more unforgiving mature skin

onlychildhamster · 20/09/2021 13:20

Just my jawline with milk makeup bronzer. Why is the large version sold out everywhere?

TheFairPrincess · 20/09/2021 18:34

I love a contour. I have a squidgy baby face and due to being so pale, if I wear foundation it can really knock any natural dimension out of my face.

I just use easy and natural looking products like a cream concealer in a dark shade, plus natural and light cream blush and highlight, I don't use powder bronzer or anything as I feel it looks heavy and unnatural. The highlight makes the biggest difference IMO as long as it's not sparkly and unflattering.

I think naturalness also depends on wear you put the product. When I say contour I'm talking about adding dimension into the face, not trying to sculpt pretend cheekbone lines or nose bridges. Not that that doesn't look amazing btw, it's just too heavy for me for every day.

WhereAreWeNow · 20/09/2021 19:33

No. I don't really get it. Each to their own but I don't really like the contoured look. I prefer blusher on apples of cheeks to make me look less dead.
