Hairdyer for long thick hair

Can anyone recommend a good hairdryer for drying long thick hair? Basically drying my hair is like an endless marathon, and my current hairdryer is fairly powerful on the highest speed setting but is incredibly hot so I find I can't sit in that level of heat for long enough to get it dry (I get hot flushes so it's not great!). I would like one that is powerful enough to dry it quicker than 20 mins, but won't frazzle it ( or me ). Drying it is a real ball ache at the mo. It's longer than shoulder length. I guess. Middle of my back type length.

I know I could just have it cut but I am not keen as while it's long it weighs itself down so I don't have to spend time taming it. If it were shorter it would stick out and I'd need to spend time taming it. If I left it wet it would take ages to dry naturally and would look even thicker if I didn't dry it straight.

If you have long thick hair which dryer do you use?

Thanks in advance.

I use a dyson. It's quicker but I'm not sure it's worth it to be honest.

I have long thick straight hair that takes ages to dry, and the best hairdryer hands down is the dyson one. It’s lightweight, quieter and dries my hair in about half the time of a normal dryer. It’s expensive but every bit worth it. My hairdresser was using a cloud nine one this week and it took SO LONG.

Dyson. All day long.

Onthetrain75 · 17/09/2021 20:50

I have a Parlux and a Dyson. I think the Dyson is better.

AnneLovesGilbert · 17/09/2021 20:52

I’ve got the same hair as you and have a parlux, which is what my last hairdresser used in the salon.

I don’t often fully dry it as it looks better air dried but when I do it still takes about 20 minutes, I think that might just be long thick hair though… When I used to go to a salon it took them ages too.

I use it to dry my fringe every time I wash it and it’s super quick for that, hot and powerful but doesn’t make it crispy.

I have a Panasonic its cooler but powerful.
Its great

AnnaSW1 · 17/09/2021 21:06

Have any of the dyson users bought the new flyaway attachment? I think I need it

NoviceNewMN · 17/09/2021 21:07

Parlux - it's a thing of joy.

IlsaLund · 17/09/2021 21:07

I had a Dyson but it died and I replaced it with a Parlux

I have to admit the Parlux is fine but the Dyson was better - I just balked at paying for a second one and was disappointed Dyson didn't offer any type of repair service

FflosFfantastig · 17/09/2021 21:21

Thanks for the responses I'm going to look into everything that is suggested. I have never heard of a Parlux so will look at that. The Dyson looks great, but it's such a lot of £££ so I thought I'd get some views from people.

I’ve had a gamma pui now for over 10 years. My old hairdresser used that brand. There are current versions for less than £100.

You need to look for a 2500 watt hairdryer it probably doesn’t matter too much about the brand

proudwomansexmatters · 17/09/2021 21:28

I have a ghd hairdryer and long thick (Hagrid mane) hair. It's wonderful and worth every penny.

AuntieMarys · 17/09/2021 21:29

I have a Parlux and a Dyson....Dyson is lighter but I prefer the Parlux

MummyJ12 · 17/09/2021 21:35

Another vote for the Dyson. The best hairdryer I’ve ever had.
I loved my GHD one but it wasn’t as good as the Dyson and the nozzles dropped off on my head all of the time!

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/09/2021 21:49

I hated the Dyson with passion and returned it. It made my long hair tangle, is no quicker really than my existing drier (babyliss 3Q) and obviously costs a small fortune. The only way to avoid the tangling was to turn the power down on it and then it took ages to dry so was pointless. My hair looked no better using it at all either.

In its defence it was very quiet which I liked, and is obviously attractive.

The babyliss 3Q is fairly good but it suffers with the issue you describe OP, of the hot setting being too hot. I have hair the same length and I can really empathise with the struggles of drying it. I'd say the 3Q gets mine fully dry in 10 mins.

I'm keen to try a GHD drier but am put off spending on anything after the Dyson disappointment..

It has to be a Parlux for me too. I have very long thick wavy hair. Worth every penny, especially as I’ve had it for over 8 years now. I did have it serviced a couple of years ago though with a company in Northern Ireland, only cost about £25 inc postage though.

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 17/09/2021 22:18

Forgot to say - it’s a salon only brand. You basically need to discount everything you buy in Boots from Babyliss etc. Something do with one having AC motor and one having DC (forgotten which is which but one is far superior).

ThisMustBeMyDream · 17/09/2021 22:25

I had a parleux for 6 years until a couple of weeks ago when it blew up Confused. Honestly? I don't think it was worth the £90 price tag. It dried my long thick hair in 8 minutes. But then so do most other dryers unless they are really crap.
I've just got the ghd Air hairdryer. I like it so far. I haven't timed it yet. But I suspect it is similar to the parleux. I mostly blast dry though other than my fringe. I don't section it off. I use the cloud nine wide straighteners after and am pleased with the results.

Parlux all day long .

PineappleCakes · 18/09/2021 23:23

My DD will be taking my Parlux with her when she leaves for university soon. We've had it for almost 10 years and it's been great.

I've just bought this Parlux for myself as replacement
