Mobile hairdresser or salon?

I’m looking for a new hairdresser as I can no longer afford the maintenance at the salon I’ve been going to. I’ve been looking for recommendations online locally & have found a few possibles who do consultations.
A couple of them are mobile and would come to me. I’ve always liked going to the salon as it is a nice break and relax from the chaos of home and feels like a treat. But now I’m wondering if mobile might be more convenient as I haven’t got to get myself anywhere! Feel like I’m constantly rushing around.

Just wondered what people’s experiences and preferences are of both? Thanks

I haven't been to a salon in forever, I love having my hairdresser come to me, for me it's so much more convenient and relaxing.

Having it done at home is so much more convenient but I enjoy the peace of being on my own whilst my colours processing 😂

I always prefer a salon. My main reasons:

I don't have any means to wash my hair other than getting into the shower cubicle. I wouldn't really want to have to undress and shower the colour off and then have to get dried and dressed for the cut.

I don't want to have to tidy up the kitchen if it's in a mess (only uncarpeted room in the house big enough to use) and tell others in the house they can't use the kitchen for the duration.

I don't want to have to talk to the hairdresser all the time the colour is processing. At the salon they go away and do someone else and I can read the paper.

I think it totally depends on the hairdresser
If I found one who was mobile then I'd be happy to do that - but as the one I have now works in a salon 60 miles away that's where I go
Traditionally - mobile hairdressers were mainly for the older woman so very shampoo and set , makes you wonder if they keep up to date with latest methods and style ? I do not mean any insult at all to any mobile hairdresser when I say that
If any live in East Midlands and can cope with my pink undercut pixie , please come to my house !!!
So .. def the workman rather than the workplace

my favourite hairdresser from the salon I used to go to went mobile when she had her DS. She has a mini salon at her home I can go to, or she comes to me.

Pros:
much cheaper than salon prices (I pay £15 for a wet cut)
she doesn't care if I'm in my pjs and slippers!
she offers greater flexibility than salon hours (e.g. appointments after 6pm or on Sundays)
no pressure selling at the till to buy product

Cons:
I clean the kitchen before she comes (my choice, not hers)
no matter how well I clean up, we find my hair all over the house for the 1st few days post cut
I miss the head massage when they wash your hair.

I've always felt somewhat self conscious in salons surrounded by very polished and fashion conscious young things. As much as I miss the head massage, I love the convenience of a mobile hair dresser.

I have a mobile hairdresser and it's so much easier for me given I work and have children so little free time. I've converted a few friends to him too! I would love the experience of being in a salon again but life has become too much of a rush.

When my children were younger my hairdresser friend came to my house to colour and cut my hair. At the time it suited me as DH worked long hours and weekends so I had nobody to watch my children. My friend would call down to me in the evenings when children were settled. What I found though was it wasn't really an experience, it was just maintenance, if that makes sense. I had to wash my own hair and clean up the packets etc as well as sweep the floor after hair cut. I also stuck with the same colour and style for years as she obviously didn't have access to lots of different colours.

Now that my children are older I have returned to the salon. I've had lots of different colours and cuts and I can experiment with my hair. My hairdresser is up to date on all the latest shampoos, colours etc. I enjoy seeing her for a chat and it feels like a treat to me. I would never go back to using a mobile hairdresser.

My mobile hairdresser worked in a top London salon for years and did a lot of fashion shoots too. She's the best I've ever had, way better than any salon I've been to and less than half the price.
