Best (budget) solution for painful spots?

Goingbackto5oh5 · 16/09/2021 21:51

This past week there's been an outbreak of painful spots on my face, especially around the temple/eyebrow area, as well as a solitary one on my chin. I haven't had these in years, and I'm not sure what could've brought it on because I haven't switched anything in my skincare at all. I use a salicylic acid cleanser once or twice a week as it does feel quite tight on my skin but I've been using this for at least a couple of months so it can't be that. I am on a budget so just wondering if anyone has tried anything that works for these? If it helps I have combination skin leaning more towards dry.

Sudocrem!

Lots of sleep and water?

Drs appointment.

You don’t see a female dr with acne for a reason.

Hydrocolloid patches from the chemist or pimple patches from Amazon (which are just branded hydrocolloid) always work really well and you can get a load of them for about a fiver.

Also, my skin is quite dry and salicylic gives me spots - try giving that a miss and upping your skin hydration.

Acnecide is a game changer for me.

Second the advice to see a doctor, they will give you prescription strength products that work very well

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 18/09/2021 23:57

Salicylic acid is better as a targeted spot treatment. Put a dab of high strength SA on the spot (the ordinary do one for about £5) and it dries the spot out and not the rest of your face. But for deep cystic acne a doctor is best bet.

Have you been touching your face or resting the area of your face that has the spots in your hand at all, OP? That was the cause of a recurring chin spot for me! Tea tree oil can work well on spots if that's within budget - get the oil and dab a bit on with a cotton bud.

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid Masque - I used it weekly and it cleared up sore under the skin spots. In addition to this, The Ordinary Niacinamide.

But you will also need to ensure that your skin barrier isn’t compromised when you are using any actives like this.

I use peptides, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, a hydrating mist, moisturiser and SPF in the morning.

And make sure any cleanser that you use isn’t drying. Cleansing oils make a good first cleanser. Don’t use anything for oily skin if your skin is tight. Look for hydrating cleansers.

Some faves of mine are the Body Shop Camomile balm, any by Curel, LRP Toleriane and CeraVe Hyrating cream cleanser.

But is drying so would use a milder cleanser.

Toothpaste! I had a massive spot appear on the back of my neck a few days ago but it’s been so long since I had a spot I had nothing to put on it. Then I remembered toothpaste! It dried it out overnight and it was a much more manageable size by the morning Smile

Another vote for GP. I had bad spots suddenly appear on my cheeks. Nothing shifted them but a few days on prescription duac solved it forever.

MrsSkylerWhite · 19/09/2021 10:48

Sudocrem and or a blob of toothpaste at night.
