Daily SPF similar to Bioré watery essence

I’ve always used Bioré but this past year it feels like it’s not protected my face as it usually does (I’ve tanned and got lots more sun spots) despite using it in exactly the same way, so I’m wondering whether the formula has changed or I’ve picked up a duff one as I normally get it from Amazon.

Are there brands I can buy from a more reputable source that have the same feel as this? I particularly like the way it smooths on and dries matt. It’s not greasy and heavy like others I’ve tried.

There a lot of fakes out there at the moment and I've not been able to find a stockist that looks trustworthy so I found an alternative called Altruist which you can buy from Amazon as it is an official vendor via their main website.

Following with interest - Biore has been my go to spf for ages, but I feel guilty getting it from Amazon.

I'm currently using Cosrx as I've seen it be highly rated, but I'm not a fan. It's very thick and pills unless I'm careful with it. pureseoul.co.uk/products/aloe-soothing-sun-cream-spf50-pa-50ml?variant=31345984209030&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkIGKBhCxARIsAINMioI2GGI-jGzVze2Mi9_TGrSJ8GDr0U0fSi7npcT12uxWFnNnZB07048aApP9EALw_wcB

I think stylevana and yes style are often the recommended stockists for Japanese and Korean skincare that deliver to the uk. I ordered from stylevana and apart from the fact it was incredibly slow to deliver everything was fine. I have the isntree hyaloronic acid sunscreen and it’s similar to biore but more hydrating. Evy facial mousse is excellent but you need to get used to it and again it’s more moisturising than biore.
Ultra violette are doing an offer of four mini ones to try, 2 of mine were quite nice I might order a full size.
I tried the gruum one and it feels nothing like biore it’s much thicker and it pilled like mad!
I’d like to try the anessa ones but they seem a bit expensive?

If you like biore I would honestly just re-order that but from a more reputable source maybe biore have a website where they recommend stockists? I think that’s how I found stylevana

GuyFawkesDay · 14/09/2021 13:24

I used to get korean sunscreen but I am so impressed with the Inkey list one for £15 in boots.

XingMing · 14/09/2021 16:52

Unseen Sunscreen from Supergoop, on Cult Beauty. Sadly rather dearer than Biore, but feels like a primer.

SavageDetective · 15/09/2021 08:58

@XingMing Thanks, that’s exactly the feel I’m after. The Bioré makes my skin feel amazing and is a great base.

@Kjr33 Thanks for the heads up on Stylevana - never heard of it! I may repurchase from there.

I'm using the garnier spf 50 face spray. It's made no change to my oily skin so I'm so happy with it. I think it's £6/7 on amazon

rosesarered321 · 15/09/2021 09:06

I've given up on biore watery essence as it doesn't seem to work!
I'm liking superdrug factor 30 sensitive facial sunscreen, 5* uva. I don't use moisturizer with it as it feels moisturising. It doesn't sting my very sensitive eyes and doesn't feel greasy.
And it is cheap!

PatriciaCarmichael · 15/09/2021 09:16

I’ve found the same OP. And I thought it had the citrus smell that posters said the legit one had but I’ve caught the sun wearing it.

EvelynSalt · 15/09/2021 09:17

I recently started using Paula's Choice Age Resist SPF 50 and love it. They have different versions for different skin types. It's a very fluid moisturising milk consistency, absorbs quickly and makes my skin feel lovely and soft / not shiny

Niconacotaco · 15/09/2021 14:03

Etude House Sunprise Mild Light Airy Finish - a ridiculous name but a great product.

Kjr33 · 15/09/2021 14:38

@Niconacotaco that one is great, bit dry for my skin but might suit the op

SavageDetective · 21/09/2021 23:26

@rosesarered321 @PatriciaCarmichael Interesting you've had a similar experience! I will definitely check out some other brands.

The Garnier SPF 50 anti ageing cream one is amazing. I used to love biore watery essence but had to redo our budget. This Garnier one is amazing. Make up doesn't pill on top, it's moisturising enough that I don't bother with a separate moisturiser, no white cast and soaks in quickly. And it's cheap.

Heartsinflowers · 22/09/2021 00:49

Heliocare is good. Sinks right jn and dries really Matt. In fact I find my make up stays on all day much better when I’m using it. I’m prone to spots and I found this one actually dries out the few spots that I did have and didn’t get any more. Only thing I’ve found is that because it sinks in so well you have to work really fast with it when applying. I used to use biore but found exactly the same that it stopped working and I was getting new freckles using it.

Geamhradh · 22/09/2021 06:57

As others have said there's lots of fake Biore around. I get mine from Yesstyle.
My second favourite is Frezyderm which is an spf50 and primer in one.
Nadine Baggott recommends the Garnier ultra (along with Biore) and I picked one of those up while waiting for a delivery but though it's lighter than traditional sunscreens it's still a white lotion rather than a runny liquid, and I definitely caught the sun more with that than with Biore.

Heartsinflowers · 22/09/2021 08:37

The biore I got definitely came from Japan as you can see by the postage. It used to be great but I noticed my skin was becoming freckled and uneven so I stopped using. I loved the texture and how it went on though.

Hereforthedramaz · 22/09/2021 08:48

Oh this is really interesting, I loved the biore watery essence but have also developed sun spots even using every single day so I was wondering if it wasn't right anymore too.

For reference I have always bought from stylvana.

Atm I'm using Roche posay ultra-light

https://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/enGB/anthelios-shaka-ultra-light-spf50/LRPUK-019.html?dwvarr_LRPUK-019_size=50ML

It's pretty good and sinks in well.

I didn't love the Goop one but others do seem to love it.

I had a tester of the Paula's choice one and did like it so might but a full size next.

I also recently had a tester of the Dermalogica Prisma Protect which absorbed in ok and didn't Pill.

Heartsinflowers · 22/09/2021 20:11

Such a shame about the biore. I wish they would change it back!

PeonyTime · 22/09/2021 20:19

I moved from the Borie to body shop skin defence. I was very limited by shops and delivery, so haven't tried most of the others, but hated heliocare.

SavageDetective · 23/09/2021 11:52

Wow, so it’s definitely a thing and not just me getting more sun spots.

I have the added complication of huge SPF breakout with some brands despite double cleansing, so I feel this may be an expensive exercise but I need to find something else.

@Heartsinflowers Which Heliocare do you use? I just had a look and there’s a few. The oil-free gel I’m guessing would be best as I tend to use separate SPF rather than combining it with other remedies or tint.

OP posts:
PatriciaCarmichael · 23/09/2021 17:44

Me too OP I get awful cysts from some sunscreens. The Biore was great!

Heartsinflowers · 26/09/2021 16:44

I use the Heliocare oil free gel but like I say you have to work it in fast as it sinks in so well!

whatswithtodaytoday · 26/09/2021 16:54

Oh I loved the Biore, but the last one I bought didn't smell the same (alcohol rather than citrus) and didn't seem to work well for me either. Not sure if it was fake or they just changed the formula.

Interested to hear of any other suggestions.
