Can anyone give me a good reason to keep this dress please?

I bought a heavily reduced dress from Outnet from their winter sale, earlier this year. It is really thick merino wool. It's quite figure hugging and it is handwash / dry clean only.

I can't think of where on earth I could wear it! It's a bit too fancy for outdoors and too hot for indoors, even in winter. It isn't outerwear as it's quite figure hugging.

Should I just sell the fucker? It's going to taunt me from my wardrobe all winter isn't it?

Let’s see it then

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 12/09/2021 19:18

It's hard to tell from the photo, but the waist is v fitted and the skirt is v flared.

Can anyone give me a good reason to keep this dress please?

Scotland! You could wear it in Scotland all winter, book a holiday!

KirstenBlest · 12/09/2021 19:20

Sell it

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 12/09/2021 19:20

It looks brown there, but it's more green in real life. With gold buttons on the shoulders. A bit military looking really.

Get rid. In my extensive experience of wool/ knitted dresses, ( I am old) I end up too hot/ red in the face/ like I am wearing a sack.
I live in Scotland , where you think wool dresses/ long sweaters would find their natural home, but no, they just look at me, smirking because I have been taken in again.

Augusta1 · 12/09/2021 19:21

I’d sell it too. Sorry.

I used to live in Scotland! Yes, I remember the cold Grin.

@KirstenBlest, is it because you don't like the dress or because of what I've written in my op?

It's lovely
If you sell it I think you'll regret it (and you'll probably receive an invite or something that would be the perfect place to have worn it!).
It looks timeless so I think you'd be able to wear it in the future years too.

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 12/09/2021 19:23

quick change, exactly. It's going to be smirking at me, isn't it? "What did you buy me for you dick? You live in the south of England! Mwahahaha" and so on.

Hmmm maybe...maybe an outdoor, winter event? Are there such things? Maybe I should host one.

It isn't taking up that much space in my wardrobe...and I have had a massive clear out already.

I love it!!

Good thick tights and chunky boots. Use accessories to smarten it up if need be but it's like the perfect jumper dress for smart or casual IMHO

StopThrowingCitrusFruitFFS · 12/09/2021 19:29

I do have some chunky, black boots. Maybe I could wear it on its own for winter walks? Would I look mad? Walks through town rather than the wilderness.

Nomorefuckstogive · 12/09/2021 19:30

It looks lovely to me. Any bonfire night parties? Christmas lights switch ons? Lovely with boots and tights.

Nomorefuckstogive · 12/09/2021 19:32

If it’s that warm, it’ll just need a leather jacket, or no jacket, rather than a thick coat. Lovely for walks through town, with chunky boots.

Aftertheharvest · 12/09/2021 19:35

It's lovely - I think with tights and flat boots it would be dressed 'down' and v wearable - not too fancy!

TolkiensFallow · 12/09/2021 19:35

I really like it! I think knee high boots and it’ll look great! Would be good for Christmas markets and Carol services but no good for pubs because you’ll be too hot.

Moonface123 · 12/09/2021 19:35

I would hang on to it, thick tights, boots and a nice scarve.

nzeire · 12/09/2021 19:42

God, I’d die in that.
Long walk, then stop at a pub
Roaring fire…
Dry clean only…
Yeah, nah

leavesthataregreen · 12/09/2021 19:43

I'd wear it with wooly tights and good boots for walking around Christmas markets or frosty strolls in the park or sitting outside for pub drinks. Or skating at Somerset House - perfect for that! All those times you want to look smarter than dog walk but want to feel as warm as you would in a coat.

WhileMyMeringueGentlyWeeps · 12/09/2021 19:46

I'd sell it. I have bad memories of jumper dresses. Mind you that was the 80s.

CorrBlimeyGG · 12/09/2021 19:46

Keep it for now, sell if you've not worn it by mid December. Someone will buy it for Christmas Day and then realise it's sweltering.

Maireas · 12/09/2021 19:51

Charity shop. Someone will be grateful.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 12/09/2021 19:53

Is it a jumper dress though?

It looks like a skater dress to me.

Given that the Scotland/South of England weather has been reversed this summer, I'd definitely hang on to it for winter.

As above, Christmas markets etc with thick tights and ankle boots. It's lovely.
