Dyeing an old faded canvas bag

I have a very old Marimekko canvas bag (large, with a zip), still in good condition but the black colour has faded and it looks a bit tired now.

I have been thinking of dyeing it using fabric dye, but not sure how to do it! Should I just put it in the washing machine with some Dylon dye? Or “paint” it using craft dyes?

Has anyone tried to do anything similar? Any tips much appreciated!

I’d try it in the machine. Not too hot a wash, but it should be fine.

Thank you, will try!

I have dyed several pairs of old converse using Dylon. Done in either a sink or a big plastic tub. They’ve come out looking really great!

I dyed a faded suede bag back to its original colour using normal fabric dye, applied with a sponge - it took two 'coats' but it came out really well.

I love dyeing stuff Grin like pp I’ve dyed Converse so I can’t see that dyeing a canvas bag would be any trickier! Do bear in mind some bits will take better than others. Since it’s large, I would do a washing machine pod and only dye that (the more you dye, the lighter the colour results) but yeah, go for it!

Thank you all, this helps a lot! Feeling more confident about it now. I’m new to dyeing, but had some success with bathrobes and jeans, so this is my next challenge!
