Buying Jeans? Help needed ...

Ok, I'm debating buying jeans without trying them on. I have jeans I like ok, I can measure the jeans I have, reduce all the measurements a bit (they're all too big), and just wander over to the market and find jeans that have the measurements I want.

Will this work?

(yes, I could go somewhere where I could try on jeans, but that would be more work)

Also, what sort of jeans work best on a sort of pear shape? I seem to only have wide-ish legged jeans ...

Jeans are a nightmare for me - I have to try on first.

No idea about pear shape though, I'm a sticky out arse myself

I'm pear shape. I fnd the slouch boyfriend sort of style from next is absolutely brilliant for me. They sit slightly low on the waist, but def above the hips. Fitted but not tight round the bum and then quite flared legs. The flared legs sort of balances out the top and the low waist stops a pear shaped bottom from looking huge!

I guess if you can check the measurements around the hips with a tape you could get away without trying them on, but it's nto ideal.

You have to try on jeans imo, and don't do skinny unless you try and even out your shoulders with your hips.

I think finding jeans to fit is a long and boring job. Why? I'm not like that with other trousers.

Good luck!

i have tried on about 20 pairs of straight legged jeans over past few weeks and none of them fit properly. i am sure you don't have the patience for this (mine is wearing thin and i love shopping) but shows how such a basic item varies so much in cut.

order online try at home? i think bootleg is meant to be good for pear shape. how about the uniqlo ones which someone linked to earlier?

fishie · 04/12/2007 08:51

this thread good price too.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/12/2007 09:00

I don't really like ordering online. Roman Road market is around the corner and cheap and easy. I'll take a tape measure, I always do.

Thing is, I'm currently managing with two pairs of jeans, neither of which even vaguely fits, they're both at least a size too large. And I don't know what size I'll be in a few months, so I don't see the point to spending much at all on clothes ... hence the market plan ...

NQC - I'm a pear shape () and find that men's jeans are often worth a look. Sounds a bit weird given that the classic male shape is the polar opposite of a pear, but seems to work anyhow (think maybe the difference in where the waist sits has something to do with it).

hoarsewhisperer · 04/12/2007 09:19

I'm a pear shape and I rate the New Look jeans really highly. They are cheap as chips and often stretch denim and they FIT.......

Notyummy · 04/12/2007 09:35

Gap - long and lean cut EVERY TIME

Don't be put off! They are not designed for long and lean people....they are intended to make pearshaped people look long and lean! I have three pairs and they are seriously fab.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/12/2007 10:18

Hmm, my experiences with Gap have not been good. A while back, when I was a 14/16 (am a 12/14 now, I think), I went into Gap and couldn't fit into any of their jeans, even in an 18.

ImBarryScott, why are you about being a pear shape? Nothing wrong with it!

I have to try jeans on. Would never buy without giving them a twirl in the changing room mirror. I'm tall and curvy and swear by H&M and River Island jeans if we're talking high street, Seven if talking expensive.
