Co washing newbie

I want to give co washing a try but feel a bit daunted. My hair is fine and brunette (a bit of Celtic ginger in there too). I get greasy roots but very dry ends. Does this sound right for me and what products would you recommend please?!

Live in the middle of nowhere so if it could be bought online that would be great.

Hi OP. If your hair is fine, you might find that just co-washing weighs it down a bit, in which case you might still need to use a gentle shampoo from time to time. I think, for greasy roots but dry ends, I'd use a mild conditioner to co-wash (I personally use Johnson's baby conditioner (the green one), but As I Am is often recommended as a co-wash). I'd then follow with a richer conditioner on the ends - maybe Garnier Hair Food.

Using conditioner only, does clean the scalp surprisingly well, but it will take you hair a little while to adapt so be prepared for it not to look its best for a few weeks. After that, though, it should start to look shiny and healthy.

I co-wash and my hair sounds very similar to yours. I usually use Garnier hair food. Make sure the conditioner doesn’t have silicones.

THE best thing you can buy is a shampoo brush/scalp scrubber thing. You really need to work your roots to lift the oils and dirt away. You can just scrub like mad with your hands but it gets sore! Then rinse really well. Then just condition ends as you would normally.

I do a shampoo wash (with no sls) maybe once every 2 weeks to give it a good clean then co-wash the rest of the time. My hair loves it and really looks a million times better. I haven’t noticed any extra greasiness at all.
