Do fancy shampoos & conditioners make a difference?

My hair always looks fab when I come out of the hairdressers and gradually goes downhill. The colour changes from a nice shade of brown to a orangey brown and the condition goes frizzier and dryer. Wondering if investing in something like kerastase or the stuff they use in the hairdresser will make a difference? I have dyed brown hair (would be grey), tendency to frizz and really thick if that makes any difference! Thanks!

I have very recently discovered the curly girl method. your frizz is curls in waiting (probably! )

Definitely look up the curly girl method and also lovenoughty.co.uk/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3-e3zsny8gIVArDtCh28mAWbEAAYASAAEgIcyPD_BwE great shampoo and conditioner!

I think it's more about the technique than the shampoo used, though getting a shampoo that suits your hair needs and type is also helpful (rather than cost specifically)

I doubt anyone at home is half as comprehensive in the shampooing, rinsing, treatments or blow drying methods as happens at the hairdresser so it is unsurprising the hair won't look the same.

I find using a silicone scalp massager and really taking my time to shampoo makes a huge difference, as does rinsing for twice as long, repeating the step if my hair is feeling particularly full of build up, properly brushing it out and applying conditioner (when I use it) with a comb, and rinse for twice as long. Keep all brushes and my hands clean when I'm blow drying and make sure hair is 100% dry.

If I do that the result is similar to the salon, if I don't (aka most normal days when I cant be bothered or am in a rush) it will look flatter, get greasy quicker, maybe frizz a bit if I haven't dried it properly. Sadly I think you get out what you put in and the products are largely here nor there as long as they suit your hair type (eg not to heavy for fine or greasy hair and not to stripping if it's dry and so on).

I do buy the kerastase as I have treated hair and I do think regular shampoo with sulphates in can make it look really dull. That being said you have to know which one you’re buying as a lot of their products have it in so get the red one if you are going to spend.
Otherwise just find a shampoo that doesn’t have SLS in it (basically an adapted curly girl method) and should protect it better.
Although as PP has said it’s often the technique. And the heat protector sprays etc.

The only thing I found made a difference and I've tried a lot of salon shampoos as well as supermarket brands, is Olaplex no. 7 bonding oil

I have a blue shampoo to counteract the orange tones. I really recommend fanola (you can buy it on Amazon).

I won't let hairdressers dye my hair brown any more. It always fades to orange. My hairdresser misunderstood me when I asked for a balayage the other day and bleached all my hair and then intended to dye brown over the top of the yellow-blonde to do a root melt (language barrier). No fucking way. Fool me six times once, etc, etc. I got him to dye it blue instead. Faded it out over a week to a nice silver-ash blonde. I'll try again for the balayage once I've got the natural brown roots grown in.

I've had much more success with long-lasting brown at home using a box of permanent dye.

Frizz-wise, the Loreal 8 Second Wonder Water is really good. It's very similar to the Color Wow Dream Coat in consistency and outcome but much cheaper and goes on your hair in the shower rather than on damp hair once you're out.
