I need one for my unruly damaged hair. Are they any good? I have a big birthday coming up so thinking of asking for one.

I do rate mine, I should in fact use it more often. I mainly use the curling barrels and the brush to dry it more straight, but still use product to reduce frizz and keep it in place.

It's really hard to say - completely depends on what your hair is like. I have fine blonde hair (but a lot of it) which is dead straight and it did nothing for me. A bit of volume initially but flat and limp by mid morning.

If your hair is coarser or has a natural kink or curl I can imagine it would be fab

LondonWhyEyeMan · 08/09/2021 08:29

I had one, the volume was amazing and the curls looked lovely but my hair is blonde and fine like that PP and it just wouldn’t stay in no matter what I tried so I sent it back. I have since had hair extensions so my hair is a lot longer and thicker and I’m tempted try it again to see if it’s any better this time

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 08/09/2021 08:35

I have blond coarse and thick hair with a slight wave, it isn't fine hair so I think it may be ok then.

Do you want waves/curls or smooth OP?

Kjr33 · 08/09/2021 10:44

I have thick hair with a bit of a wave and I love my air wrap!! dries quickly at low heat so less damage to my highlighted hair, the smoothing brushes give me the sort of finish I would usually have to blow dry and straighten to achieve, and the curls are great (you need to get the hang of it watch some you tube videos and your hair needs to be dryer than you think!) I use it every time I blow dry and my hair is in such good condition now. I got a bargain one not sure I would have paid full price but look at the Dyson refurbished ones if you want to lower the initial outlay

trevthecat · 08/09/2021 10:50

I have wild, frizzy, curly hair. I can go from just out of the shower to straight or nice curls in about half hour. I don't know what I would do without it!

didldidi · 08/09/2021 10:51

OP my hair is exactly the same and it works really well as long as you use a good curl mousse. Use from damp as curls don't hold very well on dry hair.
I recommend the smoothing brush which can be used from wet pretty much.

One thing I would say though is I get more flyway's on the top of my head since I've been using it.
Got mine refurbished from the Dyson website

uptoongirl · 08/09/2021 11:59

I've got lots of wavy hair and it doesn't hold very well for me - I haven't tried loads of products so it may be I just haven't found the right companion for it. I do think the hairdryer and the straightening brush are good...not £400+ good but I do feel it's less damaging than other hot tools.

MrsPerfect12 · 08/09/2021 12:53

I find the 20mm longer barrels are better I had the normal sized and the curl would t hold. So 20mm and L'Oréal blow dry cream works best for me. Look at dyson air wrap styling tips for tips.

Toffeepineapple · 08/09/2021 13:42

I have one and after a lot of practice, I would say I'm happy with it overall. I don't think it's worth the money though. £300 max I think.

If you're just using it to curl and you want the curls to last longer than 20 minutes Confused I'd give it a swerve. I found I had about a 5 minute window of actually liking the curls. First 10 minutes I look like Oliver Cromwell, which believe it or not, wasn't the look I was going for Blush. Then they settle down and look really lovely, but then just disappear to pretty much nothing, unless you load your hair with full strength hair spray. Needless to say, I don't really use the curling barrel attachments.

I only really use the blow out barrel, which does give volume, smooths and gives some movement at the ends. Don't bother with medium heat though. You have to wack it on high heat to have any smoothing effect and it IS hot, so would still use a lot of heat protectant.

Confusedandshaken · 08/09/2021 15:19

Mine was a total waste of money. It's an adequate hairdryer but the curls drop in an hour.

IloveJudgeJudy · 08/09/2021 16:43

It's a No from me. I love the Dyson hairdryer but was very disappointed with the Airwrap. It wrecked my hair for a while.

CottonSock · 08/09/2021 16:44

I tried one in John lewis pre lockdown. I didn't see it offered anything better than my Dyson drier and GHD platinum straightners.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 08/09/2021 16:49

I'm just looking to straighten my hair really.

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

I'm just looking to straighten my hair really.
You need a Revlon One Step not a Dyson
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2021 17:24

Revlon Salon One- Step Volumizer for mid to long hair (2-in-1 styling tool, dryer and styler, IONIC TECHNOLOGY, Ceramic tourmaline coating), RVDR5222 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072VH43KL/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_YHBGJRRDKF766N1SGQX8?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/09/2021 17:26

Absolute game changer. Dry your hair with hair drier first, go over it with the One Step in sections. Lots of videos on you tube if you want to take a look.

Mercurial123 · 08/09/2021 18:08

Love the Dyson hairdryer. Tried my friend's Air Wrap it wasn't worth it for me as I want to straighten my hair. Revlon One step left me with damaged hair. Love the L'Oréal steampod. Less damage than regular ceramic straighteners.
