Dryrobe

Does anyone have a Dryrobe and would you say you could use it as a winter coat?
I've spent SO long looking at winter coats but all the ones I want are £200-400, I need it to be waterproof and wind proof, I'm also very fussy.

I love the look of the Dry robe and it says it's waterproof and wind proof, but can you just wear it as a coat?

I don't do any swimming Blush

God no way. I have one as I swim all year round and they are indispensable for that but I am even morto going to the shop afterwards in it. Maybe the black one but unless you swim I would steer clear.

Letthelightoflove · 07/09/2021 18:43

Have you seen one in real life? I’m no fashion guru but I don’t think you can.

Also - they’re huge!! Would flap all over the place!

ShuddaBeenMe · 07/09/2021 18:49

😂 no!!

IsThePopeCatholic · 07/09/2021 18:52

No! They look ridiculous .

GemmaRuby · 07/09/2021 19:01

Have you looked at seasalt for coats?

covetingthepreciousthings · 07/09/2021 19:27

That's that then Grin

It kind of depends. I have, will and am absolutely going to continue using mine to go on outdoor walks by the beach/through the local forest/school run in shit weather/outdoor bbq/drinking/running to local shop in the pissing rain.
I am an uncomfortably cold person and I have never found a coat that ticks all the boxes (plus I can layer up as well underneath)
(And it has a wine pocketWink)
BUT I would never wear it shopping in the local town or out at night (apart from to the aforementioned beer garden where then my comfort overcomes the need for a lovely coat as I just can't cope being cold and would need to go home)
I also have the camo one which I think makes me look eccentric rather than just madHmmGrinI am fooling no-one but myself, but I am WARM

idontlikealdi · 07/09/2021 19:44

No!!! They're bloody brilliant for what they're for but not your average coat 😂😂

careerchangeperhaps · 07/09/2021 19:52

I have seen lots of people wearing them as coats; they look ridiculous.
This is not a question for Style and Beauty Smile

TuftyRusty · 07/09/2021 20:15

I’ve got one as an outdoor swimmer. It’s fine for using as a coat to get to and from swimming but anything else - no, it looks ridiculous! There will be loads of big oversized puffers etc in the shops this year.

missfliss · 07/09/2021 20:30

I use one as a year round sea swimmer, they are massive because they are designed to get changed under - like a huge tent.
I would wear it for freezing driving rain if I had to leave the house for an errand bug o 100% would not wear it as my main winter coat!'

JoeMaplin · 07/09/2021 20:36

I have one for winter open water swimming, they are huge! I did wear it to the pub once, in my defence it was last December when we had to sit outside and it was freezing. Much as I love my dryrobe, I wouldn't get one as a coat.

JohnNutLips · 07/09/2021 20:39

Have a look at Buffalo - UK company make waterproof and wind proof jackets and aren’t massively expensive from what I remember.

Hey my lovely, there’s so many prestigious assholes on this website who shame people for wearing dry robes on the school run and to the supermarket etc. honestly my dry robe is the best investment I have brought! I’m a watersports instructor and I wear mine before and after teaching. However; I also wear it on the school run everyday because I live in the UNITED KINGDOM where it rains everyday. Honestly get the coat!!! It’s perfect for everything regardless of the haters!

Atomsaway · 10/10/2024 22:24

I don’t have an actual dry robe, but another brand. I bought it in March to go on a field trip with my sixth form class. It wasn’t actually cold/wet enough to wear it in the end. However, I fully intend to use it (if the weather warrants it) this winter. Couldn’t give two hoots if the style police stop me. I want to be warm and dry!

Sorbiecorner · 11/10/2024 07:32

I have an equivalent that lives in the boot of my car for standing at football and rugby with the DC. Yes, I have worn mine to the supermarket. I actually wore it yesterday in town shopping as I didn’t realise how chilly it was. Would I use it as my everyday winter coat, no but it does serve a purpose. It’s warm, waterproof and wind proof. Mine is an x small with plenty room for a jumper etc underneath. They are very big made.

ANagsHead · 11/10/2024 08:40

@covetingthepreciousthings think of them as akin to a dressing gown.

Great for their purpose - but you wouldn’t wear your dressing gown to Waitrose, or on the Tube. And your children (if any) may have their own opinion on you wearing a dressing gown to pick them up from school …

ImNotThereAmI · 11/10/2024 16:26

Loads of mums where I am wear a dry robe as a coat on the school run.

Garlicnaan · 11/10/2024 16:28

I think sod it, wear what you like. Lots of people wear theirs as a coat, and why not. They're warm, practical and comfy.

Iloveshihtzus · 11/10/2024 17:33

I hope the OP wasn’t waiting until 2024 to decide 🤔

ANagsHead · 11/10/2024 17:40

FFS! Grin

Sorbiecorner · 11/10/2024 19:02

Love how you looked for a three year old thread to comment on people who hate your Dryrobe.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 11/10/2024 20:02

I particularly love the FB page “ Dry robe wankers”, sums things up beautifully!
