Please help skincare novice from become a wrinkled heap

I’m 34 and have never had a skincare routine, bar only the few months about ten years ago when I used Clinique 3 step skincare because my boyfriends mum bought it for me. Then I couldn’t afford to buy it again when it ran out, and here we are 😂

But I’ve noticed my forehead is getting more and more wrinkles so I’d like to attempt an intervention. I also have a problem with blackheads particularly in my chin which I never bother to really do anything about. The rest of my skin is probably combination, some oily patches but much drier as I’ve got older. My eyes are very sensitive and react badly to quite a lot of moisturisers.

I’m very lazy - don’t even reliably wash or cleanse my face every night even when I’ve got makeup on 😬 so I need something easy and it will be a learning curve for sure. I’ve got a 4 month old and a toddler so don’t have much time or money either. Oh the joys!

Please recommend some products for me and I’m going to try to salvage my skin from an otherwise inevitable decline. Thanks!

Cleanse morning and night. Use factor 50 sunscreen every single day. Get a good moisturiser with peptides, hyaluronic acid and retinol. You could also try an acid to peel off dead skin cells.

I like The Ordinary because it’s dead cheap and you can mix and match depending on your needs. Pixi also has some nice stuff, especially the glycolic acid toner.

Spf and a decent cleanser and a nice moisturiser is the best start I think, try the inky list website where you can build a routine by putting in your skin concerns. Although I’ve not heard good things about the inky list spf so maybe go elsewhere for that. La roche posay always gets good reviews but I would go for biore watery essence.

From experience, don't try to go for a full product range of you're not doing anything at the moment. It can get a bit confusing and hard to build a routine. If you get a hot cloth cleanser/cleanser and a flannel you get a bit of exfoliation at the same time. And if you go for a moisturiser that has an SPF it's one less step.

On the contrary, moisturiser with spf will provide nowhere near enough protection - you need a standalone product.

Get tretinoin from a dermatologist

Thank you all for your input but I’m afraid I’m now more confused than I was before 😂 I am a real learner and know nothing. Can someone just tell me something very basic to try?

Hi op, try the vitamin e hot cloth cleanser from superdrug. Get it on your face, flannel in hot water, wipe off. Altruist is a great non greasy spf which is a the best thing to stop further sun damage. If you want to try retinol for gold star anti aging, try one of the high street night moisturisers. Do 1 thing at a time and then build from there. It is really important that you learn how to take care of yourself as well as everyone else, skincare is a easy way into treating yourself better

Cleanse with Superdrug salicylic acid facewash 2 x a day
Apply a retinol from the ordinary at boots nightly, 2 or 3 drops is plenty.

Apply the ordinary mineral spf 30 daily. Don’t attempt any acids or retinol without daily sunblock.

You can’t phone it in, you have to do it all daily.

Cerave Cleanser with salicylic acid. Morning and evening.

Morning - wear sunscreen factor 50

Evening
Cleanse
Moisturise - Cerave does a good one too and it's a huge bottle.

If you want to tackle wrinkles you need a Retinol product but if you're going to use that you MUST use Spf as it makes your skin more sentitive to the sun so I would get in the routine above and then in 6 months try a Retinol. I wear a one that's a bit expensive so you can do a thread on budget Retinols once you have the basics nailed.

I use a sacylic acid wash bar Like this one is always the first step
