Would you say this is a lot of clothes?

Or an average amount? The far wardrobe is about 1/2 full too but you can't see

Would you say this is a lot of clothes?

@BoredZelda

I had a clear out and now have about 10 tops and 4 pairs of trousers, a couple of suits and a dress. The wardrobe is a similar size to yours but is about half as full. I put out clothes I haven’t worn for years.
Do you feel you have more to wear when you have less?
OP posts:
WaitinginVain · 04/09/2021 22:34

It looks a reasonable/average amount to me.

PeonyTime · 04/09/2021 22:39

Its more than DH and I have combined.
If you wear it all, great.
If you dont wear it, cull it.
I dont think you need to buy much for a bit tho (unless you need some trousers for something)

PepsiHoover · 04/09/2021 22:46

How much of it do you actually wear though OP?

That is the same amount DH and I have between us. So I have about half of what you do. But I wear 90% of my clothes. The other 10% are the emergency suit and special occasion outfits I have just in case.

You need to have a good honest cull. I did this last year when I moved to permanently WFH. I was hanging onto stuff that didn't fit me anymore, stuff that was dated, smart stuff for the office I'd never wear anywhere else and stuff that didn't suit my lifestyle anymore (think clothes for clubbing when I haven't been clubbing since my kids were born).

Be honest about the clothes you wear the most and why. Then buy more of them.

Givemethatknife · 04/09/2021 23:24

Quite big but not vast.

What strikes me is the colours are all very random, and you appear to have a lot of similar things. I am guessing you don’t think it all works together v well as a wardrobe?

lockdownalli · 04/09/2021 23:45

Really embarrassed as I have about four times that amount Blush

I think it's fair to say I have a problem though OP.....

SolitaryTree · 04/09/2021 23:51

I probably have half what you have and I can’t even wear all of it because I’ve got fat 🤣

Miseryisabutterfly · 04/09/2021 23:51

You’re not alone @lockdownalli 😂

Miseryisabutterfly · 04/09/2021 23:51

I also can’t wear half of mine because I’ve got fat @SolitaryTree 😢

SolitaryTree · 05/09/2021 00:07

Rubbish isn’t it.
I’ve spent out on some new bits that I can wear for now but I’ll be trying to take them in and salvage what I can when I’ve lost the weight.
Ideally I’d like to have around a quarter/third of the amount in OP’s pictures.
It’s so easy to accumulate lots of anything though when you enjoy it.

Redruby2020 · 05/09/2021 00:10

Wow, I could only wish of having so many clothes! Good on you! I have a small bedroom and the boiler in it too 🥲 and so only one small wardrobe, barely anything now. I really want to get some new bits, but not sure from where, I struggle making decisions and being on the bigger side I find I just don't want to keep most things or no good, so I return things!

Rina66 · 05/09/2021 00:13

4 double wardrobes here plus a dressing room with 7 rails of clothes, plus 4 chest of drawers, scarves, handbags everywhere, stuff under beds, it's gotten out of hand - shopping was my hobby pre lockdown. I don't wear 10% of it, I'm trying really hard to not buy clothes, selling lots on eBay and doing the Marie Kondo spark joy zing thing. It's a very slow process but I am trying! I think I might get my colours done again, they were first done 30 years ago, might help me to be more brutal......or I might need to go shopping for a whole new colour palette, see, I'm beyond help Grin

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/09/2021 08:18

Each to their own, but no, that’s not a lot IMO. But I am a clothesaholic and have a lot of clothes - wardrobes in my bedroom and study, and a separate dressing room, and I still don’t have enough…. #sorrynotsorry

User875906 · 05/09/2021 08:26

I have more than that but with clothes I think that people usually have just over the amount that will fit in the space they have.

rookiemere · 05/09/2021 08:32

Is that you post cull Shock?
Looks like a lot. I did a huge clear out on Friday- 4 bin bags worth of stuff to the charity shop. All good quality high street labels - Boden, White stuff etc., much hardly worn. I'll probably regret some of it but I feel happier for getting rid of it. Still need to do my drawers, reckon I have about 20 things on hangers now, maybe 25.

ReluctantEarlyRiser · 05/09/2021 08:33

I have about the same. I have loads of summer dresses that take up half my wardrobe but I wear about once a year! Don't feel like I have lots to wear!

TableNiner · 05/09/2021 09:57

I think it’s probably average, if you have the space. I have half this, if that, but I do tend to cycle through things, so buy something new on eBay then get rid of it, so I’m not too bored. I never wear the same outfit twice. I’m finding lately that it’s easier to dress if you have lots of things in the same colour, eg navy as it all goes together and looks chic and you can vary with accessories which are easy to change up. In the past I thought this was very boring.

TiddleTaddleTat · 05/09/2021 10:11

Well, yeah. It's a lot for me. I have about half that, probably less. I don't expect you wear all of that?

M0rT · 05/09/2021 10:15

If it's all your clothes it's not a lot, I don't understand what the problem is with lots of dresses?
My wardrobe is 60% dresses because that's what I wear.
I think you should go through it and take all the summer clothes out, choose what you'll wear again, pack it up and put away and give the rest away.
Then look at what your left with and how you'll wear it.
Organise it so that you can easily see what you have when your getting dressed.
Then think about what you need for items that you couldn't wear today as they don't make up an outfit and if you want to for example keep a pair of jeans and get some tops to wear with them or get rid of the jeans.

HumDumMum · 05/09/2021 10:30

I'm really regretting culling so many clothes Sad looking back on photos and thinking why did I get rid of that!! Anyone else done that?

OP posts:
Branleuse · 05/09/2021 10:51

nah, thats not that much, its a decent wardrobe and its all oranised and so I think thats a good amount of clothes for someone that likes clothes and style.
I have more clothes than that and less organised too

Branleuse · 05/09/2021 10:52

yeah, I think we are supposed to feel guilty about having lots of clothes, and try and aim for a minimalist wardrobe or something. Im not sure why, or if we get a prize for it if we do it
HHSchultz · 05/09/2021 11:14

I really recommend getting your colours done; don't buy anything until you do, and save the money to pay for it. You have a mush mash of colour in there. Even knowing if warm or cool colours suit you is a good start.

WeirdArchitecture · 05/09/2021 13:29

im a minimalist, and own very few clothes, just a few leggings, skirts and non patterned tops.

however, I think your wardrobe looks interesting, neat and full of personality. I loathe the typical MN obsession with fucking jeans with everything, and the insinuation that wearing small pattered frocks is somehow suspect - why is a pretty dress less worthy than a sad sack of mom jeans?

don't feel the pressure to conform op, enjoy your dresses, life is too short to dress like a permanent dog walker with depression. I have no idea why having a bunch of patterned frocks means the person needs their 'colours done'. Seriously? How repressed is that?

WeirdArchitecture · 05/09/2021 13:32

Basically, there is nothing wrong with incorporating colours and patterns into your fucking wardrobe. People on here will pathologize anything.

I mean yeh, you have a lot of clothes, so if you want to cut it down just toss out what you aren't too fond of and carry on. I strongly doubt you need to alter your style or seek the advice of a frumptastic Debenhams colour coach, Jesus.
