Hair care help!

Small dilemma here. I've ruined my hair with bleach over the years. Now haven't bleached for over a year, just dyeing my natural colour (or close to) when needed to cover up stray greys and lighter patches where the bleach is still hanging around.
Had my hair cut recently for the first time in ages and the stylist says I still have lots of split ends despite taking about 2 inches off the length - it was noticeably shorter in the middle due to breakage. I get a lot of breakage when brushing, I'm trying not to use heat too much but I have very thick hair that takes an age to dry naturally and I don't always have time. Also a fair bit comes out when I'm washing and brushing it. So, in short (too late, right?) It's fucked.

However recentlyit also seems to be getting greasy, which isn't an issue I have had ever before. I use Tigi Bedhead shampoo and conditioner in the red bottle, which is supposed to be for dry and damaged hair. I also use the Garnier hair food once a week. Use Matrix miracle spray every time after washing, and heat protection spray when using the hairdryer.

I don't really want to use products for greasy hair as I don't want to dry it out any further, but something isn't working here!

Any advice welcomed!

Hi op, I'm thinking your hair is a bit stressed out? Maybe try doing a conditioner only wash alternate washes as the SLS in most shampoos can dry the scalp, meaning it then makes more oil to compensate and the vicious cycle continues.

To clarify the scalp I use a apple cider vinegar dilute rinse weekly, but you'd want to check it's ok for your colour first.

There's a hairdresser on YouTube who talks about having the right brush for your hair type, if you are getting damage and breakage then worth a look.

Also think about how you are trying your hair up. Not trendy but the invisibobble stops my hair from breaking at the midpoint where I tie it (my hair is always up) if you hate the look of the invisibobble you can pull a messy bun over it and pin it.

Also maybe a cooler setting from the hair dryer, or try to look at air dry/ wet styles on YT or instagram.

Hard to say more without more info or pics but does any of that maybe help somewhat?

My hair was once bleached to fuck and I am quite kind to it now because after a baby it's all gone

Thanks so much for your v informative reply @Chotuladoo ! Hair definitely sounds like it's stressed out. I haven't had it up very much over the holidays but now I'm back at work it will probably be up most of the time. I use those clear plastic twisty bobbles that look like old phone cables(is that an invisibobble?) they are much better than my old elastic ones!

I use the coolest setting available on my hairdryer but it still feels quite hot to me, I'm wondering if I should get a new one maybe that can go cooler.

I'm also looking at the elvive clay shampoo which was what came up when I googled oily scalp and dry ends, but I don't know if it would be any good for coloured hair!
