Recycling old trainers?

I have a very old pair of trainers that I want to get rid of. Imo they are not in good enough condition to send to the charity shop but I'm not sure what to do. Most clothing/shoe banks say they want paired shoes so I'm assuming they are expecting them to be good enough to wear.
Can old shoes/ trainers be recycled in some way and if so, does anyone know where I send/take them. Otherwise, do I just put them in the general rubbish bin?

I would love an expert opinion. I guess it's the bin and landfill tbh for all such mixed materials.

I have a few too. They are wearable but look very tatty

Put them through the wash then take to the charity shop .

I think Runners Need shops have trainer recycling bins, have a google for it xx

I'm not sure what to do tbh. Trainers are near impossible to recycle so they will likely end up in landfill (or however your council deals with waste) I have personally seen massive piles of tatty, basically unusable trainers in a market in a third world country that have obviously been sent from the west, so I feel uneasy about 'donating' trainers that aren't in reasonable condition anymore.

Check out your local tip or recycling bank? Ours has a bin for shoe recycling and trainers are accepted. I was surprised when I checked the council website how many things they accepted for recycling at the bank near me ("paper, card, mixed glass, aluminium cans and tins, foil, small electrical items, books, CDs, DVDs, shoes, clothes and textiles")

@gunnersgold

Put them through the wash then take to the charity shop .
They aren't just dirty they are worn/scraped. I think the council bins ask for paired shoes so I'm guessing they only want ones that could be worn again.
