Actually I just found it still available!! Reduced price too.

I'd forgotten that HoF can be a treasure trove of old stock sometimes.

I have the olive green one since last year and I am thinking getting the black one too.
These are very warm coats,
I wear them in the Winter with zero temperatures.
They do not look chavvy or cheap, just pure style.
Whoever says they are frumpy obvs. never has seen any.
I can only recommend it.
Oh and I’m 38 so not old and ageing either.

I’m not keen on the Alexa, I don’t like coats or jackets with belts.
Years ago I had a vintage Burberry’s Mac and sold it as I hated the belt and the length.

@Tallbrowncatwithanothercat
thank you, that gave me a hope lol!

I know what you mean, OP. You don’t want to look like the Queen in her casual wear doing the rounds on one of her estates, and you also don’t want to look like a Chelsea fan.

I think those padded Barbours are quite tired looking at the moment.

Perfectlystill · 02/09/2021 16:42

What are you going to wear it for? And where?

I think burgundy is the most 'nan' colour of all and would avoid. I have a (green) Barbour parka but it's quite cool compared to the ones posted above. No idea what style it is, I bought it from the Barbour shop in Piccadilly several years ago, but it's aging very well and has seen me through years of school runs and dog walks.

I wouldn’t wear one around town unless slinging something on quickly, but do own a Classic Barbour for walks, countryside trips, camping etc and it’s well made and practical.

I don’t see Barbour as a fashion brand, rather something useful and classic that lasts over time.

I agree. They’re purely functional. They have no pretensions to style of any kind as far as I’m concerned.

I used to have a green and blue Barbour jacket (2 different ones in early 1990 when I was 18 and they were trendy.

The blue one I had to buy a separate faux fur gilet to wear inside it for warmth.

For me they’re country side jackets and dated.

Foreverinthenineties · 03/09/2021 11:06

Just put on in crispy morning walks with the dog or for a school run.
I got tons of other jackets, which to be truthful I don’t even wear but this one really caught my eye, particularly as it’s a warmer version of my other Barbour beadnell I already own and very much love. I was not just sure about the quilting pattern on this one.
I remember I had navy quilted jacket ( no Barbour but similar style ) in my early 20s, I had loved it and it looked very smart.
Times are changing though..

I don't like it. I think it would suit someone older.

Noshowwithoutpunch · 03/09/2021 11:12

Older than 40

having had a rethink overnight I felt I needed something waterproof which I rethink the Cavalry is. I popped in to our local Go Outdoors shop when I was out today and tried on the North Ridge Adapt 3 in 1 which covered everything I needed so came home and ordered it (got an extra 10% off).

Wax Barbours have their place if you live in the countryside. They look frumpy / out of place in the burbs though. I have a wax jacket that I wear on walks and it looks great, v classic. The jackets you are asking about here are frumpy and dated.

Greyhare · 03/09/2021 19:08

I think the fold down corduroy collar makes them look frumpy, I have several with the stand up necks but I only wear them for walking the dog.

AlrightThereSkippy · 03/09/2021 19:14

Actually...I see what a pp means re cotton traders.

I should know, as I do have a coat from cotton traders Blush (it isn't one of these types though and I personally think it suits me - I'm only 37 too Grin)!
