WWW's six week 10 year younger boot camp, Dec 07, WEEK SIX

WideWebWitch · 02/12/2007 22:07

This is week 6 of the ninth WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's autumn
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

If I say I had maltesers for breakfast, would it give an indication as to the sort of day I've had???

(Did manage the exercise bike first though, so not all bad).

And DS1 very kindly fainted in class so I was able to skive the afternoon off work. (He's ok, just a bit under the weather).

Oh Winnie, I've been wondering how you are too, so sorry the doctor didn't listen to you properly, can you see another doctor at the practice? Internet service at home, do get it sorted if you can. And let us know if there's anything we can do or help with. Even if it's just listening.

Iota, lol at gorgon, I bet you're not. But hey, wait for January, you'll be back here I bet bwah ha ha ha

unknownrelbang, so, was lunch chocolate too? thank you, I do have a v good and amicable divorce, Dh likes him ex dh too, they get on well and talk about techy things completely separately to me. It's nice, I feel like I've got a lot of support, ex mil is fab too, as are all ex ils really. Sitting on that train and knowing I had an alternative was brilliant really. ex offered to drive me home but as I'd have had to get to the station first to get my car and as I still wouldn't have made it home until 9.30pm it didn't seem worth it. So hey, a curry and some wine on a Tuesday night was nice although I was longing to be home last night.

dofn, hope your sciatica improves.

Hello all

Well, this is my last day of freedom before returning to work on Monday. Am spending the day manically trying to do as much of the christmas online shopping as possible - feel that I have got most of it cracked now, dd is problematic but apart from her only pesky BIL to buy for and am going to delegate that one to dp.

I am really rather proud of myself as have come off the detox but kept a lot of the good bootcampish habits on. Am now a stone lighter and have been told I am looking good buy lots of people, so it must be true. Am most pleased with kicking the nightly wine habit which was taking its toll on my weight and general health - I do sleep much better when I have had a glass or none at all. The big test will be whether I can keep it up back in the real world, what with commute, stresses of new job and balancing life at home.

Mothers help has turned out to be fabulous so far, kids realy like her and she will also do some extra hours cleaning for me too so am feeling very lucky indeed.

www your commuting tales make me pale with apprehension at what I have in store next week.

Dolly and Marina - I have a wandering 5 year old at the moment who ends up in our bed every night. I am really tired as a result. Am about to try a star chart with rewards for the little minx if she stays in bed all night.

tortoiseSHELL · 07/12/2007 13:18

hello all, have been so rubbish this week, due (excuses coming) to being really tired and stressed (I know it's no excuse really!). Oh well. I am about to launch into my pre-christmas stupid number of concerts, starting on Saturday, so haven't much hope for the next few weeks either - concerts always mean rubbish eating, because the rehearsals tend to be round lunchtime, the concert takes over the evening. On Sunday I'm conducting a 'Come and Sing Messiah' which should be fun!

Winnie, I'm so sorry you're having a bad time - hope you're feeling better soon. Www, sounds like you had a nice curry, but PITA about the train! DofN - hope your sciatica is better soon. How long till the baby? Unknownrebelbang - sorry about your colleague.

tortoiseSHELL · 07/12/2007 13:20

Just to add, am VERY proud of ds1 atm - he had his first orchestra concert last week, which I sadly couldn't go to (had my own concert!), but I went to the rehearsal, and although he did once or twice finish a good couple of lines before the rest of the orchestra he did well. This morning at school the Key Stage 1 choir sang to the parents, which he is in (and dd, although she was noticeably absent this morning - I think she had forgotten and gone out to play!!!!).

WideWebWitch · 07/12/2007 19:29

TS, aaah at your ds, sweet. Sorry you're stressed. Can you take lunch to the concerts if you want to eat healthily?

Puddle, I hope it's better than expected, glad the mothers help is working out.

Where is everyone? We are v depleted, has everyone thrown in the towel due to Christmas, hmm?

100g granola
apple
wotsits
marmite sandwich
flapjack
and now have just had some honey nut cashews and have just taken my first sip of wine, bliss
tonight we're having pizza but I just bought super salads from M&S so accompanied by those.
Happy weekend everyone.

Many apologies for all the whinging from me on this thread btw, sorry if it's driven people away, I do realise it's boring but it's been so lovely to get it off my chest. Thanks for listening to me.

Waves to Winnie, hope you get internet at home soon. We miss you!

WWW - don't apologise for moaning, we can take it.

puddle - you are having a terrific end to the year! Well done.

ts - life will return to normal. Christmas is hard work. Good luck with the concerts, the conducting sounds brilliant. (baby not due til May btw).

I did the pre-school end of term party today. It went extremely well, FC turned up on time, the entertainer was fantastic, the food was great. On days like these I actually feel sad about ditching the Chairs job next year! Good job they are rare days or I might be persuaded to stay on!

I haven't eaten much today but am about to go out to dinner with the staff & committee - I' having prawns followed by salmon and may have a single glass of wine. Tomorrow I may or may not be going to Bedgebury Lapland UK (depends on weather). Apparently they do a mean bacon sandwich so it'll be a bootcamp free day for me!

Have a great weekend all.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/12/2007 19:39

PS. I had an idle thought earlier about what our posts will be like between 24 December and 2 January.

unknownrebelbang · 08/12/2007 00:05

I won't be posting between 22nd and 8th January, lol.

Winnie, sorry to hear about the lecture.

Puddle, good luck next week. Mother's help sounds fab.

TS - how lovely. DS2 is practising his cello a little more often these days, and at the moment seems quite keen to continue. Time will tell I guess.

www, don't worry about the whinging, that's part and parcel of the thread isn't it? I feel like I could whinge for England this week (and have done )

Hmm, yesterday after the maltesers breakfast, I had bran flakes for lunch and pizza for tea....followed by maltesers for supper, lol. As you can see everything went to pot.

Sunscreen - tick.
No or little booze - glass of vino, plus I won a bottle, but I've left it in the car, out of reach, lol.
20 mins on exercise bike, rather than walking.
Lots of water/weak tea - not really enough.
No body cream.
No Hand and foot cream.
Go to bed early - .
Eat healthily - toast for breakfast, buffet lunch at work, chicken for tea, burgers at camp. I have just come away though without having a takeaway, so minor moral victory.

Be happy - day off work (well free lunch at HO so didn't count) and Christmas Cub Camp weekend which is good fun, always includes a bit of mild flirting which is good for the soul I find.

Only blot today was GP sending DS1 for bloodtests because he fainted yesterday. Fairly sure he's just a bit rundown, but will be happier once we've got the results.

ooooh - three glasses of wine last night (alongside super healthy rice and raosted veg but still) and am feeling drained this am - dd was in my bed from 1.30 this am and just wouldn't go back. DP decamped to dd's bed, then at 4.00 ds joined us......

So as i have been up since 6 I have had plenty of time to agree a plan of action with the dcs. This involves a digital clock each so they know what the time is when they wake, nightlight for dd and a star chart with big treats at the end if they stay in their beds for a month.

I wonder if the imminent changes to our routine have got them both a bit worried.

I am loving all the tales of festive school and pre-school events. Well done to your ds torty. My school concerts start next week.

Rebel - I am sure the doc is taking a belt and braces approach - try not to worry. My DP used to faint regularly betweeen the ages of 7 and 10 and then just as suddenly stopped. lol re your maltesers diet - I have had no chocolate since October (which is unheard of) and am scared to have any as I know once I have some the descent will be sharp and swift....

Am going into town today to finish off any presents today that I can't get online, then I am done. Have a great weekend everyone .

tigermoth · 08/12/2007 08:33

Hello all, sorry I haven't been around. Just reading through the messages to catch up. Hope you all have a lovely weekend, even if relaxing is difficult in this countdown to christmas. Just off out to stand in a large tent (no, not The 02) at a certain location in Greenwich. But it will be festive - I hope.

winnie · 08/12/2007 08:53

Goodmorning everyone

I am working today & breakfast so far has been half a cup of tea and 3 mints. Which says everything really.

I have plastered myself in creams and potions this morning. It is going to be a long day on my feet but I forgot my MORON which also says a lot really.

I will get back into this... I will (despite the tiny distraction that is Christmas ahead of us).

Have a lovely weekend everyone

foxinsocks · 08/12/2007 09:11

hello! sorry to hear about the doctor winnie - nothing worse than getting a lecture when what you are hoping for is a kind ear!

I have had a horrific week - found out that ds was getting thumped at school regularly (not malicious at least - by his friends who adore him - think they do it to get his attention - but ds is frightened by it and when asked about hitting back announced 'but you know I'm not that type of boy' sob), made a screw up at work because I've been rushing too much to fit all the work in and still get home at a half reasonable hour, got rightly bollocked but it made me feel AWFUL (as still trying to 'prove myself') and the only day dh and I get to see each other (Sunday) is now completely filled with social stuff that he is really looking forward to whereas I'd quite like to crawl into the nearest hole and stay there!

Only slight cheer this week is that we have new neighbours on one side. We live in a terrace - they are all incredibly narrow Victorian cottages (around 12-13ft wide) and our new neighbours (described by estate agent as a 'professional couple') decided to christen every room last night and have obviously not realised how bad the soundproofing is . Needless to say, I don't think I'm going to be able to watch a western and hear the words 'Ride Me Cowgirl' without sniggering ever again.

winnie · 08/12/2007 09:39

foxinsocks, you have just made me laugh out loud! Re neighbours.

Sorry you've had a horrible week. Hope you get some time to yourself this weekend

WideWebWitch · 08/12/2007 10:17

FIS, lol at neighbours but your poor ds and poor you re work, I so know the feeling of being stretched so incredibly thin you want to sleep for a month. Sympathy

Winnie, welcome back, do eat something, it will help. x

Foxinsocks, and at your neighbours.

I have done very little exercise lately, partly because I have had a cold and a bad chest and partly because I have not fancied running in torrential rain.

I am out for a lovely meal with friends tonight, and my parents have just asked us if we want to join them and my brother for lunch. Not much bootcamping this weekend then!

hi to everyone, have a good weekend.

at batters 'high hopes for it' malteser cake.

fox - I hope your neighbours settle down. Hilarious as a one-off but not amusing if regular! I had a very noisy upstairs-flat neighbour once, it reached the point where I stood on my bed (so approx. 6ft beneath them) and yelled at the top of my voice. It was quiet after that but I didn't get invited for drinks again... And I hope the work situation is OK next week.

We went to Bedgebury Lapland today and it was great, despite the rain. I've had lots of exercise as was walking around for over 4 hours.

I've eaten muesli, mulled wine, bacon roll, worcester-sauce flavoured crisps, canapes for dinner and about to have a tarte tatin. A strange sort of day for food.

My feet are agony so I'll be paying them lots of attention this evening.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.

WideWebWitch · 08/12/2007 20:33

Hello
ooh that cake sounds DELICIOUS batters!

Today
a bacon sandwich

lunch was fattening but healthy iyswim:

half an avocado in a piece of bread with garlic mayonnaise and the crusts cut off
a few prawns dipped in garlic mayonnaise
3 bean salad
some M&S superfoods salad with cous cous, peppers, broccoli, butternut squash
some lentil and wild rice salad
half a corn on the cob (yes, I put butter no it but not much)
and am having chingri sagwala (prawn curry basically) for supper
And I'm drinking wine, of course but have only just opened it
no walking except to hairdresser to get my roots done
used sunscreen though
prob less water than usual

I think Christmas is going to be a challenge, I do NOT want to go back up the 2 dress sizes to get to what I was last Jan so I tihnk I'm going to have to be moderate ish. Hmm.

Batters that cake sounds divine (drool).

DP is playing festive stuff on the piano (practicing for school) and I have just been writing christmas cards so we were feeling festive and in need of fizz!

Sorry to hear about your bad week Fox. DS told me today he'd been 'strangled' by the boy-with-a-bad-reputation in the year above him on Friday. And his teacher had told him that she keeps 'forgetting about him as he's always so good' when class merits are given out. So a chat with the teacher is on the cards here too. LOL at your energetic neighbours though.

Have also just realised we are having a party next saturday. Am going to have a busy week. Anyone with any tips for quick and easy buffet type food - please let me know!

WideWebWitch · 08/12/2007 21:02
